“An amazing Lady”

Dolly's House Museum
Ranked #27 of 61 things to do in Ketchikan
Attraction details
Reviewed November 14, 2012

The house is exactly the same as when Dolly herself lived there. Full of the minutiae of everyday live, set back a hundred years. There's tons of information, and lots of things to touch, making it less like a cold museum and more like getting a tour of a real person's house (which is exactly what it is). Some things are more roped off than they used to be due to people stealing stuff. A great place to go and learn.

From memory a $5 donation to tour the house, you dont need to be part of a tour to go in, the ladies who look after the house are wll informed on the history and will answer any questions you may have. Allow 1/2 an hour at least to see all, when its busy the narrow hallways will cause bottlenecks and you will have to wait your turn to see the rooms.

Spent about an hour in this tiny little museum of the oldest profession. Dolly's House is chock a block full of period furnishings, apparel and photos and, according to the docents, it is all authentic from the time Dolly closed her place in the early 1950s right down to her collection of hats on her bed. Be sure to check out the "rosettes" on the bathroom shower curtain. Hilarious.

This was a fun little tour that was included with our city tour. It is interesting to see the period furnishings and clothes that are in the house. The story of Dolly and her business is also interesting. A good was to kill 20-30 minutes.

Loved the antiques and stories. It's like they say, the old girl never threw away anything. It's history, and it's fun
