Wonderful tour! Our Tlingit guide was fabulous and had first-hand knowledge of the culture and crafts

We included a visit to the Totem Heritage Center in our self-guided walking tour of Ketchikan. It was really interesting to see the preserved, unrestored totems. They gave me a more complete sense of local native history. The short presentation at the beginning of our visit about the totems in the lobby area was very insightful and full of lore. There are also other beautiful artifacts in the museum, including tools and masks, and many beautiful totems on the grounds surrounding the museum and around town worth seeing. Worth the walk.

The staff fitted us in on a bright sunny day as they rushed to get off to a meeting. We were stunned by the complex cultural, societal and artistic exhibited by peoples who came millenia before us to N.A. The Totem Center is 1st rate! Thank you.

The Totem Heritage Center is an easy walk from where the ships are docked. The Totem Heritage Center is reached by walking on Creek Street and then following roads/paths upstream. The Totem Heritage Center is across Ketchican Creek from the Deer Mountain Tribal Hatchery and Eagle Center. Do not go to the hatchery, it is a complete waste of time and money. The Totem Heritage Center provides a meaningful look into the history of totem poles and the people that constructed them. There are some really old totem poles kept in climate-controlled enclosures.
