“A little non-touristy gem”
Reviewed July 28, 2012 via mobile

For a mere $5, my husband and I were immersed in local Indian history. And these were genuine antique artifacts, not fake. It made me sad to think how many lovely ancient totems like this were lost. And I also liked the other displays, had never heard of button blankets. This is a museum especially for those who like to stop and read those placards that curators lovingly put together and that too many people race on by. Great learning center.

“Good local history”
Reviewed July 22, 2012

This museum is a little inconvenient to get to. It has a collection of original native totem poles with background stories on them, but they are displayed in glass cases under subdued light (I guess to help preserve them). It's worth a quick trip if you don't mind walking a mile or so.

“Good intro to Tlingit totems.”
Reviewed July 20, 2012

We were surprised with this center. While it wasn't big the exhibits were well done and the attendant was very knowledgeable. Well worth the walk from the end of Creek St over the hill.

“Small But Full Of Totem History”
Reviewed July 17, 2012

We took a short stroll up from Creek Street to check this out and were not disappointed. It was very cool to see such old totems preserved. They also often have pictures of the totem where it was taken from so you can get the feel for what it looked like in it's original location. Very informative and interesting!
