“Worth a visit”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

Visited Totem Bight Park on a shore excursion from our cruise ship. The tour was informative and a good introduction to the Tlinglit culture. It's interesting to hear the stories that acompany the totem poles however they seem to change depending on your tour guides interpretation. The short walk from the entrance to the park is pretty and the scenery once in the park is worthy of some photos.

“Interesting but long”
Reviewed July 21, 2013 via mobile

We were on a cruise tour connected to the lumberjack show. This included a 45 min
bus trip through all parts of Ketchekan. We had a friendly well-informed guide who explained the totems and also talked about many of the interesting trees and berries in the rainforest. The long house was also unique. However there were a lot tour groups and so we had to wait our turn, and I found the standing tiring. They had a nice gift shop and some refreshments. I might add that the washrooms were spotless.

I have always enjoyed learning something new about other cultures. Seeing all the totem poles and the totem house was super cool.

“Beautiful totem poles”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

Due to the high price of the cruise ship excursions to Totem Bight State Park, we decided to take the public bus. I had printed out the bus schedule ahead of time in order to make the most out of our limited time in Ketchikan. After waiting about 15 minutes for the bus, it still hadn't come. We finally saw at the bus stop that there was a notice stating that the bus schedule was changing on July 3 (we were there July 3!). We ended up waiting about 45 minutes total for the bus to come. The bus to the state park has changed from the blue line to the sliver line. It is $2 round trip. It was really crowded going to and from the park. There were lots of interesting locals and also tourists on the bus. It takes about 25 minutes from the downtown area to the state park.

The state park has a small nature/visitor's center. There are also pamphlets available that provide more detail about the totem poles. The entrance to the park is free. A short path through the woods leads to the totem poles. The totem poles are very beautiful. We loved looking at all of them. There are displays throughout the park that provide information about the park and totem poles. The park sites right next to the bay. There are some nice views of bay from the park. I think that an hour is sufficient time to see all of the totem poles and visit the nature/visitor's center. There are fairly clean outhouses at the state park. I didn't see any bathrooms with plumbing. The public bus returns every hour. We were there during the early afternoon and there weren't any tour buses. The only people at the park were the ones that took the bus with us. Overall, a good visit to a nice state park.

“Educational and the price is right”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

We took the city bus to the park ($2 round trip). Luckily, we got an early bus so we were at the park before the tour buses from the cruise ships arrived. There is no admission charge for the park and an informative brochure is available at the ranger station. A trail runs through the park so that it is accessible even for individuals with mobility problems. The park includes a number of totem poles as well as a clan house. There are interpretive signs among the totem poles that explain the significance of the various figures depicted on the poles. In addition, the park's location on the water is picturesque. The ride from the pier is about 25 minutes each way. If you allow yourself about an hour for visiting, you should be able to take your time and see everything in the park. At the ranger station there are also signs with lots of information about eagles. This park is definitely worth a visit.
