“Beautiful views!”
Reviewed September 8, 2012

Please do not get ripped off by overpriced tours! Ketchikan is small enough that doing some research and planning your trip accordingly will save you loads. As many have reviewed, just spend 2 bucks for the all day bus pass, and you can see all the totems you want for no additional charges! You can get some really nice photos at the park and appreciate nature.

“See what totem poles are all about”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

Taking the little walk in this park and seeing all the original and reproduced totems gave me a much greater understanding and appreciation for Tlingit and Haida culture. Great views and picture opportunities, too.

“Great park”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

If you go to Ketchikan on a cruise, just take a bus from the city downtown to the park. It is only $2 for the bus and park is free. There is no need to book overpriced excursion trough the ship, because it takes 20 minutes to get to the park by public bus (blue line).

“Cool totems and cool gun museum”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

The other reviews explain about the park, but no one said anything about the gun museum tucked into the gift shop. (Walk down the trail past the ranger station.) There is a fascinating collection of REALLY old guns, including two Gatling guns, a rifle with a built in sword, a rifle with a harpoon, and many others. It was not advertised at all and was quite a special surprise. There is a narwal tusk on display too. We took the blue line bus out there for $2.00 each way and spent 2 hours. They pick up every hour. There is also a fishing village, Potlatch Park, behind the gift shop. The giftshop had some good prices on handcarved totems as well.

“Easy bus ride.”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

You can take the blue line (I think blue, but check) out past the Wal-Mart to the Totem Bight State Park and see the dozen or so totem poles cut by the guys in the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) A blight is an inlet or a bay, as I recall. Easy walk down to the Totem Poles. Some mosquitoes are present, but didn't bother me too much. Bus runs every hour, you can do the park in 45 minutes, but go next door and see the other park and see that as well, since your there. Take two hours and not be rushed. A nice place to just sit and watch the water. Restful.
