Eagles, wolves, sea monster with neck scales built by children in classroom by old cars. Would you believe a Chalmers and a Stanley Steamer, all by the sea. A museum with antique guns and Alaska animals (taxidermy) & store with alaska products galore (something for everyone) and more cars (air cooled Franklin and others). Totems by native buildings with great native art, totem carving, and a native "community" lodge. All in a compact walkable area, some slight slope. Could have spent a lot more time there.

It's was one of the side tours that we signed up for on our cruise. To be honest I wasn't wild about going when my wife signed us up. BUT it turned out to be a wonderful time and very educational and just fun. Our guide/driver was great and really made the trip through town and at Potlatch Park. We learned a lot about totems and saw how they were made by the resident carver who answered questions about the process from start to finish. 3 out of 5 would be our rating.

We asked the locals "What would you do if you were visiting Ketchican?". That is how we found the totem park. There were 2 totems "under construction" as well as an antique (30s and 40s) car display and an antique guns on display including a Civil War gatlin gun. After a brief walk through a wilderness path, we were treated to these great sites. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Partially a state park, there was no entrance fee. A potlatch lodge and a few out buildings ringed the totem park itself. We spent a very enjoyable hour there, arriving and leaving on a local bus--Sr rate $.50. You can't beat that bargain.

We went from a cruise ship and had a terrific tour guide. It was interesting and informative. We liked the clan houses and other village houses. Of course, we enjoyed the totem poles. The highlight was the young man carving the totem pole. Although I am not into antique cars, I have to admit that I enjoyed them.
