I arranged a tour with Taxi Cab tours after reading the glowing reviews. We were very disappointed. The driver was from Sourdough Cabs, she asked what we wanted to see. We said the Totem museum and park, downtown and if we saw wild life that would be nice. She drove us to the totem museum but did not stop, it was not until later we learned it was not open the day we were there. As it was closed there was no need to drive out to it. She drove through downtown pointing out some sights but not so we could easily take them in or photograph them, I only saw Creek Street from a distance but my mother did not see it at all.
We had a wonderful visit at Totem Bight State Historical Park seeing the totems was a highlight of the visit.
She drove around some more stating she was looking for wildlife but in the end I feel it was to put more time on the tour which in the end lasted 2 1/2 hours and cost $182. I learned more about the driver's various jobs and where she has lived over the years than about the city of Ketchikan which was a disappointment.

we had a private tour booked with Sourdough Cab Company ($225 + tip for 3 people). David was our driver and we arrived at perfect timing for low tide. This allowed us to go to a small dock and get up close and peresonal with marine life. We saw Sunfish, Star Fish, and my mother even held a tiny jelly fish in the palm of her hand! We visited the outskirts of a Hatchery for Salmon, so we came very close and got amazing photos of Bald Eagles, as they hang out near the Hatchery, naturally. David gave us a wonderful insight to the area and gave us real feel for living in a tiny town only accessible by boat/plane. He dropped us off at the beginning of a 15-minute walking trail through the Tongass National Forest (rain forest) and picked us up at the other end. This allowed us to take our time and privately enjoy the views. On to the Totem Pole Park. A great way to learn more histroy of the native indians of the area.

Kat called us while we were on the ship to let us know she was there an waiting.

She picked us up in a Scarbourogh Cab right on time. She was very accommodating and willing to do whatever she could to make our trip just right for us. We didn't get to see any bear, but we did see a deer from a distance, several eagles, and some marine life by a boat dock.

She had binoculars we could borrow (since our last minute Walmart ones were crap).

We stopped for a while at a totem park and that was interesting. We also did a small walk through a forest area (about 5 min) and the only place where bug spray would have been ok.

She was also knowledgeable and helped us find the place to get some crab shipped back for a friend at home.

She was very consciences of the time, which I mostly though was ok, since we didn't want to go over and it was clear that we would have to pay more if we did. So we hurried on a few things for that reason, and then in the end she dropped us off about 15 early but we still paid full price.

Timing is kind of hard, and I get that.. but if 15 min under doesn't constitute a price break, 15 min over shouldn't constitute an extra charge... just my opinion.
I heard some people being offered $50 per hour for similar tours.

Overall, I'm glad we had Kat and I'd recommend her services.

We had Kat pick us up for a private tour during our stop in Ketchikan from a Royal Caribbean cruise, It was truly a pleasure. Reservations were very efficient. Kat picked us up early as we docked early. A thoroughly enjoyable day. She took us templates we would not have seen. Her love and knowledge of the place was invaluable. I cannot recommend this enough instead of the usual cruise ship tour.

It was a pleasure dealing with this wonderful couple! Dave was right on time to pick us up - and off we went. Dave is a treasure trove of information and it was actually not only entertaining but actually educational to be with him! He took great enthusiasm in making it more interesting for our 10 year old and we saw lots of eagles, deer, berries (of various kind - including some that looked like salmon eggs), crabs, and a whole lot of other marine small-life. We missed the salmon run and along with that the bear too, which we were expecting to see. The Totem park is worth a quick walk and quite interesting when one understands the folklore behind it. 2-3 hours is more than sufficient to see whatever there is to see in Ketchikan. In hindsight, Ketchikan was actually lackluster, and if you are doing this tour looking for bears, think again! This is really not the best way to be looking for them - that's the reason one star is getting knocked out!
