Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: We will meet you at you cruise ship and go to where the bikes are. The best way to get away from the crowded downtown area is on a motorcycle. Go beach combing, visit Ward Lake, Watch eagles and smell the fresh air. Some days the air may be a little wetter then some but, all in all its awesome here.

We were provided appropriate riding gear and helmets. Sportsters are provided but you can upgrade. Heidi was our guide and she was great! We rode for about 3 hours and saw some beautiful scenery and points of interest.

We booked online for Sept 4th. You could also just show up to get a bike though. We showed up late and there were only a few bikes left. He was having a very good day. The weather was great, only a light sprinkle late in the afternoon. First south to the salmon run. Keep an eye out, the bridge was quit congested. Then north to the waterfall back to the marina for lunch (fish and chips, a little greasy and more then enough). The totems were next. We could stay as short or as long as we liked at each place. A little spin on the lake roads and back to town. This was the best excursion on our two week cruise.

Like many other reviewers, we arrived on a cruise ship stop in Ketchikan, which usually lasts about five hours on average. When looking at the available tours offered by the cruise line, the motorcycle tour was the only one that sounded interesting. At first, I just skipped over this tour as we had no interest in riding a Harley and really prefer to avoid any group riding. After researching, I was able to find the rental place online and contacted them directly about other bikes.

If you are arriving on a cruiseship and want to book a guided tour, you have to go through the cruise line. However, if you want to ride on your own ride, you can just rent the bike directly from them and make your own adventure out of it. They have Gold Wings available and since we have wanted to ride one to see if we liked it, and ride some in a small part of Alaska, it worked out to be better for us. It was also cheaper than the tour since we were riding two-up.

They were great to deal with when we picked up & dropped off the GW and it was in great condition. It was really raining a lot that day, along with being fairly windy and foggy when we walked over from the cruise ship. The temperature was about 60 degrees, so not bad for this time of year. They even offered to let us cancel if we wanted too, due to the weather. If your a real motorcyclist, you are not going to let a little bad weather like this, stop you from riding :-)

We did ride north to the end of the main road, off towards Ward Lake I think it was, and stopped to see the totem pole park. We would have ridden south from the town, however there was road construction down that way with delays and did not want to take a chance on not getting back tothe ship in time.

One thing on gear, if you are a ATGATT rider, the only gear provided is a rainsuit, open face helmet, rubber boots to slide over your shoes, and fabric gloves. We took our own leather gloves at a minimum and was just careful riding in the rain. The good thing about all that rain is there is no oil on the roads like you find in the lower 48 after the first few minutes of rain, which makes it slippery.

I am glad we rented from them as it was worth it to us, even for just a few hours in the rain.

I would highly recommend these guys for renting/riding in Ketchikan.
Great bikes, excellent friendly service, all necessary gear included, very reasonable prices!
Our best excursion on the whole Anchorage to Vancouver cruise!
The best part is that their shop is on the wharf at the cruise ship terminal and there was no need for advance arrangements! We walked off ~ looked at the bikes ~ made the deal ~ and took off for the day.
Oh, be sure to go to the northern end of the road! The trail at the end leads to a beautiful waterfall that was full of salmon heading upstream when we were there in August.

Thank Kevin P

This was a morning-only motorcycle tour of the area in and around Ketchican. All riding gear (except boots) were provided, with Sportster being the standard assigned bike. Ketchikan gets a lot of rain, and this tour runs regardless of wet/dry conditions. In our case, the weather cooperated. Our tour guide (Heidi) provided a local resident's perspective on island living in Alaska, local history, wildlife, etc. For me, this was one of the best aspects of the tour. During a short run from each direction out of Ketchican, we came across some eagles, saw salmon running in a local stream, saw totem-related settings, and drove out a winding roadway to an uninhabited forest area. However, given the cost of this tour, I'm not sure that I would make the same tour choice now that I've completed it. The motorcycle experience felt somewhat limited, and there are other less-expensive tours that can get you out to similar or the same interest locations. Overall, a positive experience!
