We did the Bear Viewing Misty Fjord Seaplane Tour (http://www.alaskaseaplanetours.com/bearpage.htm) in July. The owner Ryan was our pilot, and his wife and daughter our ground crew. We were fortunate to have a beautiful warm clear summer day to enjoy the vast beauty of the Tsongas National Park and Misty Fjord Monument. We were lucky enough to see a bear sow with her two cubs if only for a short time before momma bear herded them away into the woods. The flight and landing were smooth and the scenery amazing. Thanks to Ryan we had a great trip. Highly recommend Alaska Sea Plane Tours when in Ketchikan, AK.

My husband and brother in law took these two tours and came back with their jaws still dropped. They told of their flight through the fjords to hanging lakes above the cliffs, seeing bears along the lakes and feeling like they were in a movie. The pilot was fantastic and gave them an experience that will never be forgotten.

Scheduled to arrive via cruise ship but decided to go off the beaten path and called this company months ahead. Phone calls were answered promptly, confirmations emailed and months later I wondered if they would remember me.

Marty was waiting for us at the visitors center as our boat docked. While standing on our verandah, he waived his arms so we could find him. Within 15 mins of stepping of the boat, we we arrived at the house where the sea planes are located.

Our trip to Misty Fjords was awesome. Ryan is a excellent pilot and the scenery unbelievable. After our first stop, we climbed out onto the pontoons. Ryan paddled the plane closer to land to see the bears close up. We hung our for awhile, hoping bears would show up. Ryan was very friendly and patient.

The company owns a Cessna which seats 4, a Beaver which seats 6-8, and several helicopters. Ryan and his wife own the company and the house which was in a prime location of Ketchikan.

The company is local, very flexible (ESP if you arrive early or want to fly to a different location), very friendly, on time, and reliable. Ryan has been a pilot in Alaska for many years and knows the area well. He is a very safe pilot.

I would highly recommend booking with this company and not the cruise ship.

My husband and I took a plane ride to Prince of Wales Island with Pilot Ryan and enjoyed every minute! The plane seated four people, but it was just Ryan, my husband, and me, which was nice. We flew over gorgeous mountains and dramatic granite cliffs, and even saw mountain goats on top of the mountains! Ryan made an easy landing on a beautiful lake and we observed a brown bear eating grass for a long time! Ryan paddled around the lake to see if more bears would come out, but none did. We weren't disappointed at all - seeing one bear, the mountain goats and the amazing landscape was worth every penny. Ryan answered questions but we also enjoyed the fact that he didn't talk constantly -- the view is a lot to take in and you don't need a play-by-play. Love that Ryan said float planes are one of the safest ways to get around, because if there is a problem, there is plenty of water around Ketchikan for emergency landings!! Great experience, great pilot, will book another tour next time we are in town. We spent 7 days in Ketchikan and this float plane trip was the highlight for my husband!

It's easy to find Marty at the Alaska Seaplane Tour desk right at the dock's Visitor Centre in Ketchican. Saving $69 a person off HAL's tour prices was easy too and it felt good to hand our money to an Alaskan business.
AST staff drive you to their seaplane dock about 15 min from town. We shared a Beaver aircraft - total 6 passengers plus pilot.
This flight was a major highlight of our Alaskan cruise! Flying over the phenomenal peaks of Misty Fjord National Monument was amazing! We saw a trickle of mountain goats trailing skywards on a ridge and landed smoothly on a glassy lake in the middle of this phenomenal scenery. After spending about half an hour scrambling on the rocks on shore beside a mountain waterfall, we climbed back into our stalwart, reliable Beaver for our return flight.
We heard the previous flight passengers were able to see bears on their flight, so anything is possible! We just saw our bear later while on the bus in Juneau - he was crossing the road!!!

Thanks to Eric, our wonderful pilot! You made our day in Ketchican!
