We recently spent 3 nights here as the first stop on a 3 week Alaskan vacation that my husband and I were doing with another couple. It was a pre paid, self guided trip, but a travel agency had done all of the bookings for us. At check in it was discovered that our friend's reservation was available, but ours was not. This was high season in AK, a very popular city and busy hotels.
With concern on our part and much digging into the hotel records by the assistant manager, it was discovered that the travel agency had originally booked the rooms months before and a month later inadvertently canceled ours, which remains a mystery today, but had a happy ending. The Best Western had one room left so we wouldn't be sleeping across town or in the park! Even though the error was not created by the hotel, they could not have been more determined to fix it, helpful and even apologetic.
The manager stopped by our dinner table in their upstairs restaurant that evening, to check on our comfort and we were treated to a full, large breakfast the next morning that had not been included in our reservation.
The room was clean and comfortable with a good mattress. The on site dining options, with harbor views and outside balcony tables were a great convenience with good food and great friendly service.
The free, on call, shuttle service was a huge plus, both for downtown trips and early morning departure on the Marine ferry.
We would definitely stay again, but would avoid the first floor rooms near the entrance as the fishing tours, waiting to be picked up outside at 3-4 am don't think of the bedroom windows nearby of sleeping guests, when talking and laughing, understandably excited about their outing.
It was a small irritant in an otherwise excellent stay. Good property, great staff!

Dear RadniRA:
Thank you for your review of our property. We are sorry to hear of the mix-up with your room cancellation, but very happy to hear that our Assistant Manager was able to find accommodations in our hotel for your stay. We appreciate your comments about the early morning risers and will make our night staff aware to keep an eye out for raised voices that may awaken our sleeping guests. We appreciate your comments concerning your stay and welcome you back in the very near future. Linda Peters, G.M.

This hotel was very clean and the staff was friendly and very helpful. Because it's in Alaska, they don't have air conditioning in the rooms. We were there during one on what was told to be a "warm day". Even though they don't have air conditioning, they have fans in the rooms which worked just fine with a "high" temperature of 74 degrees.

Dear Joann T:
We are very pleased to hear that you found our staff friendly and helpful. You are correct that we do not have air conditioning in Ketchikan in any of our rooms. We appreciate hearing that our fans in the rooms helped cool the temperature down for you. Yes, even 74 is extremely warm for us. We hope you will make another visit to Ketchikan and allow us to service your hospitality needs again. Thank you for the review. Linda Peters, G.M.

Close to the downtown shopping district, free shuttle service from the hotel. Rooms are very well maintained and the staff was very courteous upon arrival. I highly recommend you visit the U.S. Forest Service Southeast Alaska Discovery Center while there.
Highly recommended.
Nora L

Room Tip: Close to the front desk on the bottom floor as the corridors are long.

This is a good place to stay. Nice restaurant , comfy room, close to grocery store, good policy on late check if room demand isn't too heavy. The fitness center could be vented better but is adequate. They have the best halibut fish and chips I've ever had.

Dear Keith Y:
Thank you for your review. I will be sure to have our maintenance staff check out the ventilation in the fitness center to see if there is something we can do to improve it. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. We are happy to hear our front desk and housekeeping staff were able to accommodate your late check out request. We have to agree our halibut fish and chips is the best and we appreciate your confirmation of that.

room was spacious, but there was no air condition running. Either they don't have one, or it was shut down for some reason. I was kind of dizzy in the morning after I woke up as there was no fresh air coming to the room during the night. The bar at the hotel is great, offering variety of the food and drinks

Dear crobex: My apologies for not responding to your review earlier. My apologies for the warm room, but we do not have air conditioning in the rooms. We do however have fans in the rooms to cool them down; which you will find in the closet. We are sorry you had an uncomfortable night. We are happy to hear you felt the bar was great in both food and drinks. We appreciate your review and look forward to seeing you again in the future.
