we stay at this hotel quite often, it is a good location to the ferries and airlines, has shuttle service to just about anywhere within city limits with a restaurant in the hotel, altho there are several restaurants not to far away.

The hotel is very clean and the staff is friendly. They allow dogs which is a must for our family, the dogs are always with us. We have also eaten in the restaurant and the pub, and both were good. Great place to stay and eat while you are in Ketchikan!

A top-quality hotel comparable to other top-quality hotels throughout the USA... conveniently located to transportation locations (airport & AMHS ferry terminals) and scenic overlook of waterfront... quality furnishings and spacious rooms... great local staff -- friendly, helpful, and professional staff at every level... good diner-like restaurant located on the premises, as well as a nice, comfortable bar/grill facility.

Don't be confused about the Best Western in the hotel's name, right from checking you know this hotel is different, from the staff at the front desk to the lobby, the check-in, etc.

After finding my room in the separate newer wing of the hotel, I walked in and discovered I had entered my own little Marriott (I travel more than occasionally for work to usually larger cities)...large room, one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in in a hotel in a long time, selection of pillows, mini-refrigerator, microwave, large, flat-screen TV, usable work-desk, free wi-fi & hard-wire connection if preferred, etc. The only telltale sign this was a BW were the amenities in the bathroom: while the bathroom itself was clean and stylish (not your typical plastic off-white vanity variety), the soap, shampoo, and lotion were a little disappointing for the level of class of the rest of the room. And while the white towels were nicer than the average BW...large and not thread-bare...they were still a little coarse considering the comfort of sheets and comforter on the bed. But I guess if I had to offset costs in a hotel room, I would do it in the bathroom rather than in the sleeping area. Could also be a BW corporate requirement, so might not be the owner's decision.

I guess my only only only small complaint about the room...but this is a complaint I have with many hotels these days...the bulbs used in the room are the energy-efficient bulbs that give me a headache because of their dimness (and wavelength). My suggestion to the hotel would be to put a small halogen worklight on the desk, but then again, they do have a lamp on the desk w/ a low-watt bulb, just need to turn it on early and get used to the light-level. Truthfully, though, I really am reaching here as once all the lights were turned on, the light-level in the room was fine.

The hotel has a fairly good gym for both aerobics and weight-lifting so no complaints there; the only thing lacking is a sauna or steam-room that would definitely put it this hotel over the top especially as Ketchikan can get a little chilly and damp at times.

The hotel also has a great little bar/pub (Jeremiahs) with good food and good selection of beer on tap that is handy without having to go outside (including both a stout and brown porter in the mix!), but if you want, the hotel is close to the local shopping center w/ complimentary shuttle service to there and all points in the city which is convenient.

It's hard to stop complimenting this hotel, possibly because it was my first visit and not knowing what to expect from a Best Western in Alaska, but it is obvious the owner(s), managers, and people working at this hotel care alot about this facility and maintaining it's standard. I don't come to Ketchikan often, but know that next time I am I won't have to worry about where I am staying (unless the owenrship changes or BW corporate decides to takes over such a renegade hotel).

Room Tip: "Newer" wing has slightly larger rooms with typical bathroom layout though you do have to...

Dear Northernwatch:
Thank you for the very nice review of our property. We were happy to hear that you felt you were in a more upscale property. Our owners do put their money back into the property to make it the best it can be. Our staff also takes great pride in the place that they work and it shows with their frinedly, helpful attitudes. We appreciate your comments about the bathroom amenities and the courseness of the towels and will take a look into correcting those items to make it seem even more so upper scale. We were glad you made use of our courtesy shuttle to take you around town. We sincerely hope you will make another visit to Ketchikan in the very near future. Thank you again for recommending our property to other travelers. Best Regards, Linda Peters, G.M.

Stayed one night in an Executive King room with my honey at the Best Western Landing Hotel in Ketchikan. We arrived by ferry and the terminal is located across the street from the hotel. The Landing Hotel also offers a free shuttle that is very convenient for the guests.

We stayed in room #205 which was a great floor plan. Enjoyed a fireplace, HD TV, microwave, refrigerator, work station, free internet, and a very comfy king bed. The bathroom was oversized and offered lots of extra personal items. There are two restaurants on the property and we enjoyed dinner at Jeremiah's and breakfast at the Landing. Both meals were excellent and fairly priced.

I made the reservation directly by call the hotel and was impressed by the caring attention to detail by Franny. All of the staff was excellent and our stay was short, but enjoyable.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter, but the Executive King room on the front of the hote...

Dear ronvoyage,
We are sorry to hear that your stay was short with us, but happy to hear that you enjoyed your time in our Executive King Suite. Hopefully you made use of those comfy robes in the room. We feel they are our best rooms and are perfect for an Anniversary or Wedding night. Thank you for your comments concerning our friendly, helpful staff member Franny. She has been with us many years and we also appreciate her smiling face at the front desk. We are glad that you chose to dine in Jeremiah's and had breakfast in our Landing Restaurant and enjoyed your meals. Thank for taking the time during this busy season to review our property. We hope you had a Merry Christmas and wish you a New Year filled with great health and lots of happiness. Linda Peters, G.M.

When we walked into the hotel a friendly face welcomed us. Staying out of the tourist strip was the way to go. Utilising the free shuttle was very convenient . All staff very friendly and even the GM Illa was very approachable and helpful though out our stay. Meals were good value and loved the fact that so many locals also ate there. A clean & comfortable stay no hilly steps no hidden faults. Just good value and modern setup.
