“Very interesting place to learn Tlingit Culture”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

Totems there were very interesting and our guide (from Sourdough Tours) was knowledgeable about the culture and totems. It was a great learning experience for the 6 girls we had with us.

“Saxman Village: Could Have Been Better”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

We took the free bus to the village and as soon as we stepped onto the premises were approached and told it would be $5 each. We weren't given any verbal or printed information about tours, totem poles, carvers, etc.and didn't see anything posted anywhere. When we started to enter the long house we were quickly told it was only for tour groups. We wandered around looking at the totem poles and looked through the windows into the building where a woodcarver sat, not carving. While it presented some photo opportunities, it wasn't really worth the visit or the fee without a guided tour.

“We enjoyed our visit”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

The short film and explanation of clan traditions was informative and interesting. We enjoyed the demonstration of the Native American songs and dance. It wasn't a polished act but it was great to see their heritage being passed on to even the smallest member of the clan. Our ship visited on a Sunday, so the totem carver was not available. We were taken through the carver's work room but without the carver, it was a fairly dull part of the tour. The totem area was a great photo opportunity and the stories behind each totem really interesting.

“Informative”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

Interesting and informative, but nothing outstanding. My 7 year old was very bored through most of it, and I was through parts of it. The totem carver seemed resentful of visitors.

It was OK.. Glad we didn't pay for the tour. Rode public tranist out and "overheard" much of the tour information.
