Owner description: This tour is also known as "Deadliest Catch Crab Fishermen's Tour". You can come aboard the "Aleutian Ballad" crabbing vessel as seen on season 2 of the Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch". Depart Ketchikan Alaska for a 3 hour trip to catch king crab, snow crab, octopus, fish, prawns and more. This tour also features some of the best eagle viewing on the planet. Share the allure and adventure that draw fishermen to the sea. Fishing legends that have worked the Bering Sea are your guides, some you may have seen on TV. The vessel has been retrofitted for guests comfort and fun, with a "live" tank on deck to allow for closer viewing of the wondrous creatures brought on board. Guests stay warm, dry and comfortable while we sail calm and protected waters. This is the REAL ALASKA and you won't want to miss it! Age limit for this tour is 5 years old due to maritime regulations.

We experienced many excursions on our recent Alaska trip. This is one of two that were a disappointment. We booked this based on the good feedback on Tripadvisor. Please note, we actually took this excursion - this is a genuine review based on our personal experience.

This "show" is too packaged. The crab et al are not caught in the waters near Ketchikan. They are just held hostage in the pots to be pulled up occasionally to be shown to the audience, then thrown back 'til the next show. The worst part of the show is the eagle feeding. This is illegal in the US, but this crew found a loophole. They take the ship just off an island inhabited by a native tribe. As you pull into the area you can see all the eagles waiting for their feed. The crew throw fish and the frenzy commences. There must have been 70 eagles feeding within 20 feet of the boat. Quite the photo op, but it made me very sad to see this exploitation of our majestic national bird. There is a reason it is illegal to feed eagles, and although the crew acted as though they were so clever to find a way around the law, they are harming the ecosystem.

The captains were informative, but it didn't make up for the rest.

My husband and I booked this tour from home prior to our arrival on our cruise. Once you board the ballad, you are greeted and made to immediately feel welcome and it is highly apparent throughout the tour that the crew really enjoy what they are doing. For those concerned about the ships amenities, there is plenty of seating, heaters above some seating areas, and warm jackets are provided if needed. In addition, snacks and beverages as well as some great t-shirts, sweat shirts and jackets are available for sale in the snack bar. Photo opportunities are abundant with regard to crabs of all kinds and sizes, starfish, eagles and any other wildlife seen on the sea/shore line. The crew tell sea stories and give historical facts about the local area and fishing, they also pass along some of the sea life for handling (great for kids). Would highly recommend!!!

Such a WONDERFUL trip aboard the Aleutian Ballad! The entire crew was warm, friendly and welcoming! My oldest son (9) was having some anxiety about being on the boat and the whole crew made him feel so special and really helped calm his nerves. The captain and his deck mates told interesting true stories of life and dangers associated with crabbing the deep waters of the north. The boat itself is EXTREMELY clean (the galley looked like a model home!) and is equipped with overhead heaters. The crew also provides extra warm waterproof coats for everyone on board.
The tour itself was sensational. We saw spider crabs, bald eagles swooping down like seagulls and humpback whales! EXCELLENT trip for the entire family! 5 stars!
