We used Harv & Marv’s because of the excellent Tripadvisor rating. The trip arrangements were excellent, picked up on time at our ship in Juneau harbor on Aug 21, driven to the tour harbor and put aboard the small tour boat with a total of 5 passengers. The boat was small but comfortable and rode well. Our driver/guide was pleasant and friendly, knew her way about the waters but her explanations of what we saw were cursory. We saw a total of eight humpback whales including one full breach, sea lions, harbor seals and eagles. The bus ride back to Juneau included a brief very convenient stop at Mendenhall Glacier.

This is geared to cruise ship passengers. All the companies go to the same spot. On two separate days there were at least 12 different boats in the same place. So, shop by price. Whales will be the same. That said, I liked both captains and the small boats that hold 6 passengers. Otherwise, meh.

Disappointed that we did not have an experienced juneau captain, who was knowledgeable about juneau whales and sightings. Naturalist was able to provide information. We believed a more experienced guide would be available. Did see whales nice boat.

We booked this whale watching trip privately while on an Alaskan cruise based on Trip Advisor reviews - and once again a little research paid off in spades. Everything went smoothly and the company appears to be very well run. It is small and takes pride in the extra service it can provide. There were six of us and we so booked a private boat.

The bus ride to the marina was fun due in large part to our very knowledgeable driver - we learned a lot about Juneau along the way, and stopped for a quick photo opportunity complete with meadow, mountains, and glacier.

At the dock we met our Captain - Jayleen. All I can say is that I have rarely met someone as comfortable and confident around boats, and as knowledgeable about her local waters as Jayleen - she was a fun and fantastic guide, smart and full of enthusiasm.

The boat was perfect for the six of us - lots of room to sit inside but also great viewing places at both the bow and stern. Jayleen found whales very quickly and before we knew it we were sitting at the bow with whales surfacing on either side. The site of tails slipping gracefully into the water and the incredible sound of water and mist from their blowholes is absolutely magical.

On the way back we stopped at the Mendenhal Glacier which was really beautiful. However given the time constraint, we really didn't have much time there - although our driver did offer us the option of getting other transport back to Juneau if we wanted to stay longer.

One tip: our tour started at noon and luckily we phoned first and found out that they only had some snacks on the boat (granola bars). So I picked up some sandwiches first in Juneau and we had them on the boat on the way to meet the whales. By the way, the place where I got the sandwiches was called "The Wild Oven" - tiny place in Juneau but PERFECT healthy food for the boat!

All in all, I highly recommend Harv & Marv's.

A fantastic trip to see whales in Juneau, better value than the cruise ship offering, smaller group too, only 5 of us were on board with Captain Jaylene who was superb.
We were picked up right at the ship, no delays waiting for large groups to board the bus, whisked off to their base about 5 miles away to meet Jaylene and board her boat for the trip. A small vessel compared to the other tours in the area used by cruise ships, but plenty of room to move around and ensures everyone a front row view, great for photographs.
We were so lucky on our trip, about 12 whales were bubble feeding and we approached to about 100 metres away, then they approached our boat, surrounding it one point, an experience that won't be forgotten.
After about three hours, which flew by we headed back to base where we were offered the opportunity to also visit the Mendenhall Glacier (at no cost!), one driver dropped us off and we joined another minivan a bit later from there back to the ship.
A very well run professional business that really looks after customers, avoid the crowds and enjoy experience!
