“Unprofessional and not worth money”
Reviewed July 8, 2008

July 2, 2008

Booked for 9:00 am, check in time 8:30 am whale watching with mendenhall glacier.
Upon arrival they said they changed our reservation to 11:30 due to boat problems.
We wanted to go earlier but felt we had no other options. Boat did not go Out till 12:30 and we returned at 2:30. I was concerned for time because we had to board the diamond princess by 3:30
Pm. Boat had mechanical Issues (possibly seaweed) and would not go above 5 mph. Consequently, we Couldn’t go very far and saw only one whale. Captain Larry who smells like
Liquor had two cigarettes on board which was very offensive. Shuttle driver talked loudly on personal cell call causing “customers” to hear too much information. Friends who went out a couple
Minutes earlier with a different orca driver and boat had a better experience.

Orca’s brochure states while Cruising their “high speed purple jet boats you will see endangered species, humpback whales and stellar sea lions, along with killer whales, eagles, harbor seals, dalls porpoise and a variety of sea and Shore birds”.

Feeling extremely disappointed in my experience I contacted Carol Pitts, CEO/CFO. She twisted my
Comments about time into “sorry you couldn’t enjoy it because you were too busy looking at your watch and timing ride” when I was concerned about missing the boat. In second conversation, she said if we only got two hours ride time she would reimburse a ticket and admitted that the boat had a seaweed problem. In third phone call, she said “as Her treat” she would reimburse us the cost of the mendenhall glacier (a total of $38.00) as opposed to $114.00 for whale watching. Mendenhall
Glacier wasn’t the issue, everything else was.

Therefore, I would strongly recommend another whale watching company in Juneau.

“Felt like a private tour”
Reviewed June 25, 2008

Based on the reviews from Trip Advisor, we called Orca Enterprises and went whale watching June 18th. While the multitudes from our cruise ship went on their shore excursion, we went to the Orca Enterprised office located right in front of the Visitor's Center. The tours normally start at 9:00am but they booked a tour for us at 8:00am since we had to be back at the ship by 12:45pm and we also wanted to see Mendenhall Glaciar. There were two other people on our tour and the six of us headed out with Becky as our guide. We met Captain Sean at the dock and went out. Whale-watching is rather laid back and my 12 year old did lose interest after the first several sightings, but we learned a great deal from our guide, we saw many "tails" and even a baby and mom. It was beautiful scenery as well. We saw many boats on the water with at least 100 people on board so we felt very special with our six.
After the whales, they drove us to Mendenhall so we could look around (should not be missed while you are in Juneau) and at 12:15pm picked us up and took us back to the ship. Talk about service! We were pleased with the day and recommend Orca Enterprises if you want to see these wonderful creatures in their natural environment.

“Wonderful Tour!”
Reviewed May 27, 2008

I read great reviews of Orca Enterprises and Captain Larry on Cruise Critic. My husband and I took a whale watch tour on 5/14/08 with Captain Larry and I can't say enough what a great group of people work for this tour company. They are all very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional in all that they do.
Their offices have restrooms, televisions, coffee, and magazines while you wait for your driver. The boat was very comfortable, clean and nice and warm. You can sit inside and have great views or go outside. There were only 14 of us on the boat so you have plenty of room to move about and take great pictures. We have been on boats with 50 or more and you can barely see a whale when spotted.
Captain Sean narrated the entire time and answered many questions and gave a lot of information.
We saw a pod of 7 Orcas who kept following and basically entertaining us! We also saw humpback whales, sea lions, dall porposis and eagles. They only thing we didn't see was a bear but Capt. Larry tried to find one!
They then took just the two of us to Mendenhall Glacier. Our driver, Terry, asked how long we wanted to stay and we were able to stay at our leisure while she waited and then drove us downtown to shop. She too gave us information about the area the entire ride.
Their prices are very reasonable and you get personalized service. I highly recommend Orca Enterprises! They all love what they do and it truly shows!

“Whales & Captain Larry”
Reviewed May 20, 2008

If you’ve ever wanted to experience seeing the magnificent whale in the wild then you have to go to Alaska. When you do go you need to book a whale watch trip with Orca Enterprises and Captain Larry. We have done this excursion twice now with Captain Larry and both times were unbelievable. After our first experience we had doubts about doing the second tour thinking “how could anything top what we saw last year”, but we had family members and friends with us and it was their first time to Alaska. They had seen the video and pictures from our first trip so everyone wanted to experience what we did.

Well once again Captain Larry came through and we had another awesome experience. The first year we saw Orcas and lots of them. At one point they were circling seals for their dinner, which even included circling our boat! There was a time that I could have reached out and touched one of the whales. It was a scene that Captain Larry said he had never experienced in his 25 years of doing this, so needless to say everyone had their video cameras going.

The second year we had the opportunity to see the great Humpback whale and watch them “bubble netting”; which is how they get their food. There is nothing like seeing these great creatures in the wild and to watch how graceful they are. It definitely gives you a great appreciation for them.

So if you ever go to Juneau look up Orca Enterprises, there is no one else that can do what Captain Larry can.

“Great time”
Reviewed July 17, 2007

Even with the brisk weather we had a great time. Captain Larry was our captain and he did a wonderful job showing off the whales. We had a great time. The crew served fresh homemade salmon spread with some crackers and sausage. YMU.
