What stunning scenery, our cruise ship hardly made a ripple in the beautiful blue waters of the fjord, gliding serenely past the ice floes dotted with seals and their cubs. Quiet, peaceful passage which lead to a glacier - another stunning sight.

Just a fantastic site to get so close to everything by cruise ship (MS Amsterdam) and plenty of time to get those amazing pictures of the glacier and actually seeing pieces fall off too. We saw seals laying on the broken ice pieces as well as smaller tour boats which were able to get even closer to the glacier. This part of the cruise was why I came to Alaska.

The visit was early in the morning and cold out on deck. The water was a fantastic teal color, and it was so interesting to be cruising close to shore.

I had expected to see a wall of glacial ice that occasionally calved while we watched near by.

Not so! We couldn't get very close because there were so many icebergs.

If you want to see the glacier up close, it seems that a later visit in the season is better because many of the large icebergs have melted by then. (I learned this from listening to more seasoned Alaskan cruisers.)

Ice in the water and almost 3000 waterfalls that we saw from our veranda on our cruise. We cruised about twenty miles up the Tracy Arm Fjord, far enough to see the Glacier at the end. Some cruisers took a smaller ship right up to the glacier and I am sure that was special. I must have taken over a hundred pictures of the fjord walls and the waterfalls tumbling from the top of the mountains to the ocean. Turning around took a while yet we had the other side of the fjord on the way out. This was the visual highlight of our Alaska cruise - we were on the Celebrity Solstice

We sailed through the Fjord on Star Princess. It is gorgeous. The narrow canyon and icebergs were fabulous. We have been on Glacier Row in South America but we saw the brightest blue icebergs in Tracy Arm Fjord. The island before Sawyer glacier is also so stunning in that setting. I don't know how anyone can sail that waterway without feeling true excitement and wonder at what nature has created there.
