This was our first day in Alaska having travelled from London the day before

The guide Mya was fabulous and lead the group well and her passion for the brown bear was foremost

The flight over was lovely spotting a bear on the creek

The permitted area covered by the rangers based there is quite small

We watched a brother and sister pair from quite a distance from the viewing area followed by a mother bear which crossed the river delta

We walked up the first part of the trail looking at the bear habitat

We had a surprise passing of mother and cub on the way down

One slight negative at the end of the day was a very aggressive pilot from Alsakan seaplanes who just barked at us to get on the plane as quickly as possible left me to walk on float unsupervised , managed to knock my head on the wing
He continued to bark at us to get our seat belts on as if we were escaping on a military mission Definitely should nit be working in a tourist facing industry!

Overall a very special day ; Im glad we have more bear viewings coming up in Kodiak, Brooks and Katmai

Jon,
Thanks for coming along and glad you got a great introduction to Alaskan bears in a beautiful wilderness setting. I am very sorry to hear that you had an unpleasant experience with the Alaska Seaplanes pilot. We have addressed the issue directly with the pilot and I hope you'll get in touch with me so that I can learn more about it and apologize directly. Safe travels!

I live in Juneau so am used to seeing and being around bears, but nothing like this. It’s one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had. I’ve been out there 3 times (late May and early June) and on every trip seen at least 5 bears and have had several pass me at a distance of only ~10 feet as I photographed them. The guides are outstanding (have gone out w/ Bjorn, Hannah & Mya, and each was professional, friendly, very knowledgeable, always put safety first and, most important, got us great opportunities to watch these beautiful animals doing their thing in their natural environment. It’s pricey, but unlike many things that are, these Tours are worth every penny ... an experience you’ll never forget!!!

Thank you! Pack Creek always has the potential to be amazing, but for us the focus is on a small crew of outstanding guides to make the trip special. By focusing on small group tours, we are trying to make sure that every person has the chance to have a world-class experience. Also, it's more fun to go with a team instead of a crowd! Thanks for your enthusiasm and appreciation of these wild animals.

Our entire two week trip to Alaska was centered around the Pack Creek Bear Tour

We booked it with Ken Leghorn (who has since passed) approximately a year in advance...This is suggested as slots are extremely limited

Our float plane trip with filled with the most amazing views

Our guide, Bjorn was perfect...Very knowledgeable and very much concerned about the safety of the group

A once in a lifetime journey made all the more memorable by Pack Creek Bear Tours

Awesome!

In mid August my wife and I took our highly anticipated float plane trip from Juneau to Admiralty island to hopefully experience wild bears up close. Our guide for this trip was Hanna. She was very knowledgeable and and reassuring.
WOW. Was good fortune on our side. When we arrived on the island and headed towards our viewing area there was already one large female bear there with two cubs. The mother bear was catching salmon in the nearby steam and then her and her cubs would feast on the fish. We were about 75 meters from these bears.
Within five minutes we spotted another large female bear and two cubs running through the grass heading almost directly towards us. As we remained still and quiet at our viewing place these new arrivals trotted along and came to within about 25-30 meters from us. As they crossed directly in front of us the two cubs stopped and each stood up for a few seconds and then in unison they moved off with their mother where she also started catching salmon. To have these magnificent animals fishing and lounging around so close to us was totally amazing. We watched these six bear for well over an hour or so. Later several other individual bears appeared coming down the stream towards us as they in turn were catching salmon.
Later we walked several kilometers inland to a viewing tower. Although no bears were visible from that location we did hear the loud sound of a bear growling in the woods as we started that walk. We eventually returned to our initial viewing area and there were still a mother and two cubs nearby. It was an unbelievable and unforgettable experience that will stay with us forever. The video footage of the bear and cubs running in towards us and then standing close by is amazing.
This was the highlight of our trip through Alaska, the Rocky Mountains and New York.
Yes it is expensive but well worth it.

Thanks for your review!
We have a small crew of guides that we trust to the hilt for their experience and skill making each trip enjoyable and special. Of course, every trip to Pack Creek is unique and special! While it doesn't happen of every trip, having a close encounter like that is really really excellent. Glad you had a good time.

Jeff was our guide and Alec was our pilot in the float plane that took us to and from the island. Jeff guided us along the water during high tide to get to the viewing area, an area that all guides will not go beyond - this ensures safety for us viewing and allows the bears a consistent area to expect people. We saw bears come to the stream and then heard a noise behind us. Yes, another bear! But once she saw us, she went back into the woods with her 3 young cubs and went around us to the stream (whew! Glad we had Jeff there to keep us safe). We watched 9 bears play and fish and took numerous pictures and watched close up with binoculars and scopes; Jeff helped to set up the scope for optimal viewing and told us about the bears. Take a good camera for the best pictures. Taking the float plane back to Juneau, Alec pointed out some humpback whales. Also there were numerous rainbows so look out the windows at the incredible sights as well!!
