We had a hour to kill before the cruise ship sailed so we stopped in at the Red Dog Saloon. It's located just one block from the cruise ships. Very touristy but fun. Drinks were reasonable, we did not eat there. There was no service for drinks, we got our drinks at the bar. Entertainment was usual tourist fare. We enjoyed the decor and the memorabilia of the gold rush era. It was loud and crowded and I would not want to spend much time there. Would prefer to see the local hang outs instead but an OK way to spend an hour.

Really interesting decor inside including the mounts of bears and other animals. They have the, pistol that was left behind by Wyatt Erp. The walls have cards and interesting graffiti from previous visitors. Even if you don't eat or have a drink there, go in and look around and check out the fun gift shop. Food so so, but that isn't the main reason to go there.

Visited the Red dog saloon when passing through Juneau. Red dog saloon is quite an attraction and well worth popping in for a visit and a beverage, also a great photo opportunity to get a picure in front of this historic place. Red dog saloon also offers a great gift shop where we stocked up on many interesting and uniqure souvenirs. If you are in Juneau you must pop in, wont disappoint.

Yes it is tourist oriented and one of those things that people expect you will have done. At lunch time there was a line out the door that I didn't want any part of. We weren't going to bother seeing it. However, that evening we had an hour to kill before we could pick something up and needed to do something. So we went in and had a beer. We ordered Alaska beers and they were quite good. There was memorabilia all over the wall and an old timey piano player. Since we had no expectations we enjoyed ourselves. It was a good place to sit, relax and get out of the rain. The saloon was built in the mining era and has been in operation for decades. Worth a visit - just go for a drink when it's not lunch or dinner time.

Such an exciting part of history! This saloon and restaurant is the real thing from the gold-mining days of Alaska and features a sawdust floor, stuffed wild animals all over the walls, a honky-tonk piano player, and much more. The place is always packed. Sign your name to the walls if you can find a spot not already covered. The food is not great, but good. Mostly fast food-type items, and of course, plenty of Alaskan beer on tap. Burgers, potato salad, chips, wine and beer for two ran us about $25. This is just the unique kind of place that you take pictures of and talk about for years after your trip. Don't visit Juneau w/o stopping in, even if you don't order anything!
