natural enviornment, good fish, picnic fare. Many receptions, parties and all have been had here. With the sun? Paradise on the ocean!

“Falls Short on Service”
Reviewed January 26, 2012

Last visit was a walk out. They didn't serve beer and they didn't accept credit cards. Ridiculous!

“Their Buts the best”
Reviewed January 24, 2012

These out of the way spot is one of my favorite spots in the summer on a sunny day to go to. Their Halibut Fish and Chips are second to none. You can sit art a picninc bench and soak in the sun and breathe in the fresh alaska air with a view of the Channel..

If you are not in to Alaska Salmon or Halibut stay clear of the Thane Ore House!
If you are looking for an Up Scale restaurant do not go to the Thane Ore House!

NOW if you want great Salmon and Halibut with all the fixings and where the locals eat this is the place.
You enter a rustic building with small and large tables with most of the tables having card chairs around them. Remember this is where the locals from Juneau go for great food.
You can order a Halibut or Salmon meal but the best is the ALL YOU CAN EAT MEAL DEAL.
The Thane Ore also has hamburgers and Beef Ribs but who goes to Alaska and eats what the lower 48 has every day. GO for the Fish.

We have cruised Alaska 19 times and every time we get off the ship in Juneau we pick up the phone call George (the owner of Thane Ore) and he has someone pick us up at the cruise dock.

This place has a Museum with tons of items from the Alaska Gastineau Mine that George and father has collected over the years. If George is not too busy cooking he will take you back to the museum and tell you some of the stories that go with the items. George usually has a big fire going in the fireplace and we have set around have lunch or dinner lessening to George talk about Alaska.

The Thane Ore building sets close to the main inlet to Juneau, you can walk out to the water’s edge and when the tide is out you will find many things left on the channel bed. One small creek close to the Thane Ore has many bald eagles we have counted as many as 12 setting in the trees.

This is the Real Alaska

“A historic building with excellent food!”
Reviewed January 6, 2012

My favorite restaurant in Juneau. I even had my reception there. The salmon and halibut are fresh and cooked as you walk through the buffet line. Plus, you can walk down to the ocean after if the weather is nice. The museum in the back is worth checking out also. A historic site in Juneau that is worth visiting. The staff know alot about the mining history of the town also. Just ask!
