Attraction details
Owner description: Eaglecrest Ski Area on Douglas Island just 12 miles from downtown is Juneau, Alaska's community owned ski area. The area offers four chairlifts, and over 640 acres of skiable terrain. Eaglecrest is gives you a big mountain experience with a small mountain feel. Facilities also include a professionally staffed Snow Sports School, Rental and Repair Shop, groomed Nordic Trails, and the Eaglecrest Grill. Eaglecrest is Juneau's Winter Playground. Winter is our favorite time at Eaglecrest but we do admit summer is a beautiful time on the mountain. No chairlifts operate but hikers and bikers can explore the mountain on the summer trail which meanders up the mountain and offers great scenic views.

“Quality ski area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

Eaglecrest is a very good ski area, with the best downhill opportunities (ski and rreat groomed X-C ski trains also; lift lines are short. From the top you can see water on both sides. The access road is ok, and there's a bus because it's about 7 miles out of town. This has produced at least one Olympic medalist and many other great skiers.

“Alaska Zipline tours area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Not enough snow for skiing, but the drive there was an opportunity to get out of the downtown cruise ship area. Enroute, I noticed a colorful fence made of old skiis.

The zipline company uses some of the ski facilities.

Have skied here for the past 25 years-- great mountain, fun people, challenging runs and lots of off piste.

“Eaglecrest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

The only ski hill in town. The menu at Eaglecrest is limited and the food is standard fried fast food but it is good, cheap, fresh and there is plenty of it.

“Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2012

We drove over to Douglas Island, headed north, and turned to climb up to the ski lift on a very good road through the forest. Snow was still heavy in the forest in May and its melting created numerous waterfalls and bustling streams. Delightfully, we were the only ones on the road. We stopped often to take photographs. It is a very beautiful drive and is only about 30 minutes from Juneau to the top.
