“Photo Safari”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

This was by far the best trip excursion we took while on the Disney Wonder. Our time was very well spent with reviewing photo tips/techniques on the bus while travelling to the Medenhall Glacier Park. Our guide, Annie, let us know that our timing was "epic" -- we saw bear, salmon and found an out of the way trail to photograph the glacier. During the whale watch portion of our trip, the boat captain was participating in prioritizing our time so that we could see everything that we wanted to see. We found lots of humpbacks and I learned that using the sequence feature gave me more of a chance of catching the perfect whale tail. We also saw seals & bald eagles. I would definitely go again if I could.

“Whale Watching & Mendenhall Glacier Photo Safari”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

This trip is designed specifically for photographers. It takes a maximum of 14 and the boat has windows that lift up and padding making it easy to get great pictures that are not ruined by being taken through glass. Our guide, Annie, was excellent, providing tips for photographers of all levels of experience and helping those less experienced set their cameras correctly. She was also extremely knowledgeable and took us to vantage points on the trek so we could get the best photos without getting lots of people in the way.

“Mendenhall Glacier Photo Safari”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

The guide was superb. My only complaint would be to speed up the land hike a bit. It was pretty much at a snail's pace. That would have allowed more time for the whale watching, which was really the most rewarding part of the excursion.

“Good general excursion”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

Being a photographer I was excited when I saw a photography excursion listed as an option on one of the Princess Cruise Line excursions. I understand that we were on a time schedule so was constantly playing 'catch up to the group' when we were hiking through the rain forest at Mendenhall Glacier park. It's hard to stop and get good shots when you have to keep moving. No time to stop, set up a tripod and do any kind of long exposures if you wanted. From that aspect, it's basically just a hike. The guide was great at pointing out the different plants and stories from the area. The whale watching was great and we were lucky enough to see 7 or 8 whales and even one that breached for us twice! There were general photography tips given and again, in a limited amount of time it was a good tour. Both our guide and the boat captain were very informative and helpful to anyone with questions. Can't wait to come back to Alaska on my own...no cruise ship and no tours... :)

“A great day seeing and learning more about Alaska history and wildlife”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

We took a photo sightseeing tour with Gastineau Guiding company as a shore excursion option through our Regent Seven Seas cruise. We were immediately impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the entire staff and particularly our guide. The guide offered many helpful tips on photography and took us to excellent locations to apply what we learned. It was an excellent day for our land and water adventure and I would definitely do it again. If you're into up close encounters with Orcas, grey whales and certainly bald eagles in their natural setting, this the place to start. Throw in a glacier visit preceded by a walk through a beautiful rainforest, and it just doesn't get any better.
