“Whale Watching & Mendenhall Glacier Photo Safari”
Reviewed August 3, 2012

This is my second cruise to Alaska and this was by far the best excursion that I have been on. This five hour tour focused on improving your photography skills and giving you the opportunity to use what you have learned from a photography expert. No matter your skill level, you will enjoy this opportunity to hone your skills and give you plenty of time and opportunity to capture that perfect image. The water portion of this excursion was in a fabulous small boat that was made for photographers. If you want to improve your photography and have something to show for it, sign up for this excursion. Bring plenty of memory and extra batteries. Adam was an excellent guide. He even saw a problem on my camera and figured out how to correct it.

“Highlight of our trip”
Reviewed July 31, 2012

My wife and I were on the same trip as Susan J., on July 24 and we agree with all her comments. While we did have amazing luck with the weather and finding whales, Scott and Gary truly love what they do and work hard to give a great experience to all. Plus, I get the feeling that Gary has a great feel for knowing where to find the whales. We've gone whale watching before in California and Hawaii, but never seen anything like what we saw on this trip.

“Alaska Whales and Rainforest Trails.....Amazing!!!”
Reviewed July 31, 2012

This is our first trip to Alaska and we couldn't have picked a better tour company! Krista, our tour guide, is native from Alaska and provided wonderful stories and information about the area! She was so patient with our kids, truly enjoys her job teaching others about this beautiful area! Nat, our captain, was also excellent driving us to different pod's of whales! What a beautiful sight! He was also very informative and great with our kids! The boat was amazing, like new....the windows fold up so you can see from all areas, a maximum amount of people so you had a lot of room so move around! Overall wonderful experience.....well worth the money! Our family would highly recommend this company!

“Whales and Rainforest Trails”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

We went on the Whales and Rainforest Trails excursion with guide Scott and boat captain Gary on July 24, 2012. This is a great combination of activities because Mendenhall Glacier is one of the main attractions in Juneau and this trip lets you take a hike, see the glacier AND watch whales - what could be better???

The excursion started out with a hike through a very pretty part of the rainforest around Mendenhall Glacier. The hike was about an hour or so and it was easy paced - there was a four year old with our group and he was able to keep up. We learned about history of the rainforest and information about the glacier.

The whale watch was AMAZING!!! The boat is small, but that allowed for great viewing no matter where the whales are. We witnessed some amazing sites as 14 humpbacks did "bubble net" feeding at least 9 times. A microphone was lowered into the water so we could hear the sounds of the whales and we were soon able to distinguish the normal sounds and when the whales were organizing to do another bubble net. At one point most of the 14 whales swam right under our boat. The boat windows are almost at water level, so this was an extremely close (touch a whale if you want to) look at these giants.

I know that nature was kind to us in being able to witness the number of whales we saw doing the bubble net, but this trip would be enjoyable even if you only saw a few whales. Scott and Gary were very knowledgeable and they were wonderful with the four year old boy on board. One word of caution though, the only jokes they know are real groaners.

“Photo Whales and Glacier”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

Brandon was our guide on a recent trip to Juneau and the whale boat ride and Mendenhall Glacier were our two photo locations. Brandon was excellent and was very knowledgeable about a variety of cameras, the environment we were in and made sure everyone felt included in the trip. The small size of the group was a great plus. Would definitely use Gastineau Guiding Company again.
