Owner description: This is our no frills experience offering direct transpiration (14 miles) from downtown Juneau to the Mendenhall Glacier. Buses leave the main cruise ship terminal and glacier every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour beginning at 8:00am most days. The last bus back to downtown leaves the glacier at 6:00pm. Let our bright blue bus take you our to the "Blue Ice Cube."*Beginning and ending times may vary according to cruise ship schedule.

“Great service”
Reviewed July 28, 2012

We used this bus service for the 2nd time and were very pleased with the service. Our first trip was in 2009 and felt we had a great value so we didn't hesitate to go with them again. For $16 per person round trip it was an inexpensive way to get to the Mendenhall Glacier area. On our return, we were the only people on the bus and the driver dropped us off in town right in front of the restaurant we wanted. Great service since we didn't have to walk back to the restaurant from the bus parking lot. Would recommend to friends that they use this bus service.

“$ 16.00 return and worth EVERY penny”
Reviewed June 12, 2012

It's a LONG walk to the visitors center from the city bus stop. And it's UPHILL!

They take more passengers back to the cruise ships than to the glacier, and that should tell you something. :-)

“great value”

$16 round trip from cruise ports to the Mendenhall Glacier park. It takes 20 mins to get there. It only runs on hour and half hour. Definitely the cheap and efficient way to get to and from glacier.

“Mendenhall Glacier must see! Take Glacier Express Blue Bus”
Reviewed July 12, 2011

Our family just returned from an Alaskan cruise. Thank you for the previous recommendations to catch the Glacier Express Blue Bus to see this awesome glacier. The rate was $16 per person, what a deal. It was about a 1/2 hour ride or less and the bus drivers were informative; buses leave every 20 minutes from Franklin St.

Mendenhall was spectacular! Our family enjoyed walking on the trails and taking pictures of flowers, nature, waterfall, and the glacier. Our teenagers enjoyed "hiking" and what an experience for them to say and remember, they went "upclose" to a glacier.

If you would like to visit the Visitor Center, there is a $3 fee.

“Glacier Express Blue Bus to Mendenhall Glacier Juneau AK”
Reviewed February 8, 2010

Glacier Express Blue Bus to Mendenhall Glacier Juneau AK When in Juneau Alaska, a must see is the Mendenhall Glacier! Which is only 13 miles from downtown Juneau. You can take a bus trip through your cruise line, but they charge more & really don't give you enough time to see everything. Instead, take the Glacier Express Blue Bus out to Mendenhall for ($14 per person round trip 2009 prices) Tickets can be purchased at or near the ship docks on Frankilin Street. Ride the bus out, tour the Visitor's Center which was built in 1962 ($3 per person 2009 price) which have exhibits, a theater and a gift store (no fee to do gift shop). Then you will also have time to do one or several of the 6 trails. The easiest being the Photo Point Trail that takes 20 minutes, is .3 miles long and has a 10 foot elevation change. Or the challenging West Glacier Trail that takes 5 hours, is 6.8 miles long and has a 1,300 foot elevation change. Plus there are 4 other trails of varying lenghth. They have a park ranger doing demos during the day - we watched a demo on why the ice turns blue. Some of our group saw a bear fishing in a small stream. Visitor Center is open from 8 AM to &:30 PM from May - September.
