“Great day whale watching!”
Reviewed November 14, 2013

This was a great individualized tour and I highly recommend it. And affordable - Captain Chris was personable and his dog 'Moon' was adorable - he was quite the whale spotter! Took us where the whales were - we say sooooo many whales - they were jumping out of the water - and we got some great photos. We booked with another couple and split the cost - highly recommend

“Rum Runner Charters - What An Experience.... More than Excellent... Outstanding!”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

Our experience was outstanding. Very well organized, welcoming, educational and with a deep respect for nature and its surroundings! Capt. Chris Conder and his K9 companion Moon were wonderful! We arranged our trip in advance since we were arriving in a Cruise and we wanted to make sure we avoided crowds. Capitan Chris gave us an introduction of what we should keep an eye for and detail information on the family of whales that were in the area. He went above and beyond our contract to make sure we had a special experience with the whales. Thanks to his patience and persistence… We were so lucky that the baby breached for us! Then at the pier he showed the girls what Bears do to the trash bins in order to get to food. I strongly recommend booking with Rum Runner, Cap. Conder runs the business at the same time he helps collect information for researchers based on his observations of nature.

“Better Than Fireworks!!”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

We are a family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 teens. We were in Alaska for the first time, traveling on the Norwegian Sun. Months before we left home, we excitedly booked a Fourth Of July full-day photo safari and deep sea fishing charter with Rum Runners. What a great decision because the day was amazing from start to finish. Chris picked us up at the ship as quickly as we could disembark, as we wanted to be out of the downtown area before the 4th of July parade route was shut down. We made that deadline easily. We headed to the marina (about a 20 minute drive) while Chris chatted about the sights we were seeing and we asked questions. We arrived at the marina where we were introduced to Moon, a beautiful yellow lab who would spend the day on the boat with us, and Josh, a first-rate first-mate. We were ready.

Because of the forecast and reports on the radio, Chris and Josh decided we would start the day with our photo safari. This portion of our day was the most important to me, and my hopes were high. I wanted to see lots of wildlife, up close, with opportunities to snap lots of photos. Our morning didn’t disappoint. We started by watching 8 humpback whales bubble net fishing, and not long after, we were joined by a small pod of Orca whales, who were swiftly making their way through the area. We kept up with both groups for a while, until we had our fill photographically. Next stop was to see some sea lions snoozing on a channel marker, a few solitary humpbacks, and a beautiful lighthouse. For lunch, Chris took us to some fishing grounds where at least 100 commercial fishing vessels were purse seine fishing for chum salmon. We were able to enjoy our lunch while watching the hard work that went into catching a net full of fish. After lunch, we headed out fishing ourselves. We stayed close to shore, and were each able to catch many salmon during the hours we fished. In the process (we were all novices) we learned a bunch, and had a blast. It was late in the day when we headed back towards the marina, but we weren’t done, yet! Chris pulled into a protected cove, and Josh started yelling while throwing chicken into the air. Before we knew it, there were a good dozen American Bald Eagles swooping down all around us to catch their dinners. Taking photos was a challenge, but I managed to catch a few good ones, and a fun video. Fourth of July fireworks would have a hard time outdoing the eagle acrobatics. With the 4 of us tired and happy, Chris headed back to the marina while Josh cleaned our fish. The 7 chum salmon and 1 pink salmon we caught were sent off to the processing plant, and we were sent off to the Sun. We would HIGHLY recommend spending the day on Rum Runner, both Chris and Josh are great hosts, and a wealth of knowledge. We would book it all again in a heartbeat. The 30 pounds of salmon arrived safe and sound after we arrived home, and we had a huge Salmon Party for folks to enjoy it with us. Delicious!!

What a wonderful day we had with Captain Chris and his sweet dog Moon. They picked us up at our ship and drove us to their boat. Not only did we see about a dozen whales,we were lucky enough to have one whale jump out of the water very close to our boat. We also saw bald eagles, sea lions, and seals. What a great day! We highly recommend Rum Runners.

We went out with captain Chris and Moon for the 2nd year in a row and had a great time! We saw a bunch of Humpback Whales, Dall Porpoise, Bald Eagles and Steller Sea Lions. Chris is very knowledgeable about the area and it's wildlife and gives you a great tour! I highly recommend Rumrunner.
