This was easily a major highlight of our Alaska trip. We chose the most strenuous of the hikes because it put us on the glacier for the greatest period of time. The staff made sure that we were totally outfitted in the appropriate gear, right down to the crampons, ice axes, and helmets. Safety was stressed, as well as the awe inspiring views of Mother Nature. The helicopter flight was smooth and professional. Our guides, Olivia and her partner, made sure that we all had the best chances to experience our surroundings to the fullest. We made memories to last a lifetime!

Hands down, one of the most AMAZING experiences of our life!!! We did the 3 hour extended Glacier trip booked through Radiance of the seas, and though very expensive, very very worth it.
If you are going to do only one major tour whilst on holiday in Alaska - Make it this one!!
Mother Nature could not have provided a more beautiful setting nor could the weather have been any better for our trek up the Mendenhall Glacier. Safety is paramount with this company, so from the minute we got in the helicopter we felt looked after. All gear is provided right down to your back pack which included a granola bar and water (make sure you fill your water bottle with water from the glacier while your up there - Best water you'll ever taste).
The highlight of our day was the glacier climb. Using the crampons and ice picks we climbed approx a 15-20 meter Glacier wall then abseiled back to the bottom. This was a BIG fear breaker for me and sooo glad I did this.
Go to the NorthStar Trekking website and watch there video.. You wont be dissapointed with this trip.

Easily one of the top highlights, if not THE highlight, of my trip to Alaska. I went on the tour out of the Celebrity Solstice cruise ship. It's a blast to ride a helicopter over the mountains and snow, ranforest and glaciers, and be treated to an up above view of the scenery. The glacier itself is incredible to see in person, and the guides make it all the more fun. They're great to hang out with and are filled with stories of not only the history and background of the glacier itself, but also crazy rescue stories of bears and moose and people and mountain goats who have all fallen into the crevasses. :) Shoutouts to Doug for being an outstanding guide, Olivia for being just plain awesome to be around, and Lauren the local Washingtonian. :)

We chose the right provider for the glacier trek. We chose based on reviews and NorthStar provided gear and had great guide & safety reviews. We we not disappointed for our Level 1 trek. We were provided pants & jackets to keep the wind out, gloves & boots, a fanny pack with tissues, water and a granola bar. The weather totally cooperated and we got wonderful views of the area before landing on the Mendenhall glacier. For a first time helicopter ride it was amazing and everything we expected and more. The glacier guides were totally helpful, got our crampons on us and started our trek, pointing out highlights and recent changes in the glacier and having us collect glacier water in our bottles so we could take the fresh water back. All the support folks at NorthStar were terrific, including the bus transfer folks, admin & preparation teams. Friends of ours used other firms for their glacier treks and did not have near the experience that we did - so NorthStar gets our highest recommendation.

Without a doubt this was the highlight of our 12 days in Alaska. From the minute you are met by Northstar Trekking you will be impressed by how organized and safety conscious this company is. Our helicopter ride with pilot Alex was awe inspiring and fun! The 2 hour hike was fantastic. Our guides, Deb, Sarah, and Dylan, were great and made sure we felt comfortable and explained the different glacial formations to us. We got to fill our water bottles with glacier water-delicious. I am terrified of heights but felt completely safe and even leaned over a crevice while tethered to a rope...what a thrill and it felt amazing to conquer my fears. Do not miss this experience!!!
