Owner description: The Macaulay Salmon Hatchery Visitor's Center offers a unique variety of attractions & a truly Alaskan experience! Get a birds-eye-view of our outdoor hatchery operations while a local guide shares with you the fascinating life cycle of an Alaskan salmon and the inner workings of the hatchery. During the months of May and June, you will have the opportunity to see juvenile salmon prior to their release. Adult salmon start returning in Late June and continue through October. Bald Eagles and seals frequent the hatchery and provide a fantastic wildlife viewing opportunity. Once inside, explore our salt water aquariums displaying over 150 species of marine life, including touch-tank aquariums where you will have the chance to physically interact with local sea animals. Venture through our gift-shop where we make it easy to ship wild Alaskan salmon anywhere in the United States. Wow your taste buds when you take the opportunity to taste a variety of salmon samples such as: king salmon dip, salmon caviar, salmon jerky, & canned salmon. A fun, affordable, & educational experience for the whole family!

We found this tour fascinating, and especially warmed to the place when a tour guide quickly took our group of 6 on our own tour instead of grouping us with the incoming busload of patrons. Learned a great deal about the salmon industry!

I had been to this salmon hatchery 20 yrs. ago . It appears to be about the same .Always interesting . Cruise ships were in so it was busy with several bus loads for visitors . we did not get involved with the tour group and did not have the complete explaination of the process but it was still worth the trip to check it out.

DIPAC was closed when we visited, but the outside viewing areas were spectacular. If salmon are running, visitors should also make time to get to a stream to see them.

What a great way to learn so much in so little time. WOW. The staff was great and so was the tour. Do not pass up a chance to visit and learn about the life cycle of the salmon. You can watch the salmon trying to climb the ladders to get back to the fishery. The staff answers all questions and...they have some grand smoked salmon for sale up from.
