“Our first stop during an Alaskan Cruise”
Reviewed August 19, 2014

Simple, easy and fast.

The first port of call on in our Alaskan Cruise was Juneau. Having been at sea level for the last two days, we decided that a view from high about the city would be a great way to start.

Without an advance reservation, we simply walked from our ship to the base of the Tramway. It was easy to find, just follow the wires as they come down the hill. (grin)

The trip was easier and faster than we expected. We bought two round-trip tickets and boarded the next tram. We couldn't see much while on the tram but did get a view of the town.

At the top, we visited the gift shop then spent some time at their Nature Center. There's a rescue eagle in a cage there that was fun to watch.

We finished with a short hike on the Alpine Loop Trail behind the Nature Center. Some were taking the long trail to the top of Mount Roberts but we decided to take the shorter loop trip and head back to the ship.

I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to visit Juneau but doesn't want to go downtown or take an (expensive) tour.

“Expensive but worth it”
Reviewed August 19, 2014

We had a gorgeous sunny day for this excursion. We bought tickets at the last minute around lunch time. We only waited a few minutes to get on the tram, which they pack pretty tight. It's an expensive and short ride up but once you get up there the views are awesome. We hiked to the Cross but there are trails for different abilities and lengths. The views of Juneau keep amazing as you walk the trail. We had a light lunch at one of the few tables the Grill has outside because it was such a beautiful day we didn't want to be inside, but I actually think the views are better inside the restaurant. Give yourself a couple of hours at least to enjoy being at the top, especially on a nice day and considering it costs so much to get up there. Also, there was a man working on carving a totem pole which was interesting to watch.

“Smooth ride!”
Reviewed August 19, 2014

Not much to it. Nice view of Juneau but it's gotten really expensive and is sort of the only game in town so make sure you don't go unless its clear and not cloudy or you won't see anything. No need to book ahead. You can walk right over. That's after you get off your ship you know. Get it?

Compared to other aerial cable cars in western North America, the USD 36.00 price was rather steep. You don't go all that high. Other similar attractions elsewhere will get you higher with better views for a superior price-per-vertical-foot ratio.

“Great view”
Reviewed August 18, 2014

The tram has great views but the trip is really for the mountain. There are trails at the top. We went all over the mountain, it was very enjoyable. There is a movie available and a gift store.
