Such a wonderful town and port. Felt like "real alaska" less commercialized than other ports. Loved the trails for hiking, the zipline, and the town nearby. Can't recommend the whale watching enough. You can also rent bikes to explore the island.

“Interesting”

Worth visiting. Lots of local history as you expect in a museum. To visit a remote area like Icy Strait it is nice to now how it evolved.

Rent a kayak and hire a water taxi out of Juneau or Hoonah. Camp at or near Point Adolphus. Let the humpback whales come to you. They most certainly will.

“Vintage Tourist Attraction”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

This was one of our stops on the RCCL Radiance of the Seas Alaska tour.
As soon as you tender from the ship you arrive at this Museum.
It is worth a look but nothing to get excited over.
There is no fee.
Several shops in the same buildings have unique Alaska Souvenirs.

“A nice recreation”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

The museum is a nice re-creation of the inner workings of a salmon cannery. For us city types, we had a chance to understand how dangerous this work really was for the employees. Nothing fancy or glitzy, just a very solid lesson in how things were done in the salmon fishing business.
