“A bit pricey, but a great romantic getaway...”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

We were looking for a place to stay in Homer, and were originally looking at a few of the larger B&B's. We were there for an anniversary so decided that the winery met our privacy needs a bit better than the others.
There are only 2 units, but the room was plenty big enough and nice enough for us. We loved the hot tub, but didn't get a chance to use the Sauna. We wished that we could have been there later in the season when the flowers were out, but the hosts were great and the setting peaceful and romantic - even with one other rental right next door.
The wine is pretty good (excellent by Alaska-made standards), albeit a bit expensive, and their breakfast voucher system was appreciated much more than the muffins and juice that most B&Bs offer.
We'll be back, but would probably aim away from the summer season to avoid the high peak rates (not much higher than other places when you consider the free breakfast vouchers).
Our only complaint is the $50 charge for late check in - with only 2 units and the owners being right on site there shouldn't be a charge for arriving after 6 and before 10 PM - an envelope with a key and instructions (rules) would have been fine too.

Thank you for your review. We are glad that we were able to provide you with a good experience for your anniversary. We hope you can visit again later in the summer when the grounds are looking their best. You are welcome to explore the grounds as a tasting room guest or a as guest in the suites.

Cheers!

Classy and clean. Great decor and hot tub. Very nice layout and great staff! I would stay again but with husband next time! Wine tasting room clean and cozy. Room was cozy and comfy. I enjoyed the coffee in morning. The landscaping was nice even in between seasons. I like the fact there were no kids but it was a very playful atmosphere.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Our suites are best suited for the couples get-away and it sounds like you took advantage of that. We hope you can visit us again, maybe when the gardens are in full bloom.

Cheers,
Louis and the Bear Creek Staff

My husband and I live in Ketchikan, Alaska and we were wanting to try a new wine and we seen this wine at one of our local stores. First we tried the Strawberry Rhubarb; so yummy. Then we tried the Wild Berry; even better! We would love to visit the winery one day, but until then we always recommend this wine to our guests and visitors in Alaska. We can't wait to taste the other wines they have!

We stayed at the Bear Creek Winery in the winter and really enjoyed our stay. The owners were very helpful and accomodating, even firing up the steam room for us (we prefer the steam to the hot tub). A bottle of wine (in this case house berry wine) comes with the room, which was very tasty (a sweet wine). The room was comfortable, had some kitchen ammeneties, a comfortable bed, and cable TV. We plan to stay here again on our next trip to Homer.

We stayed here for our honeymoon. The owners were very nice. We got a tour of how the wine is made and the tasting was very fun! This is an all Alaskan place. Everything from the fruit to the labels are made here. This is a small business and if you go in the winter months it's obvious that you can't use the fire pit. The room was very cute and came with a complimentary bottle of wine, chocolates , and smoked salmon crackers. It was a little strange that the owners live above the hot tub area. However, this is a small Alaskan business so it's really not a big deal if you aren't a snob. They didn't bother us. We got a cab and ate at local restaurant which was great! For the price you get a room, a bottle of wine, and 30 dollars in breakfast vouchers. I think that's a great deal and we would go back again!

...and not a good value. Even with a military discount, it was by far the most expensive and disappointing stay of our two weeks in Alaska. The view was ok, but not great, and the mobile home down the road didn't help. Hot tub was not great, and debilitating hot - don't stay in too long. also, no controls for the jets, aeration, etc.. they sold themselves to us as a "romantic getaway". not even close...the wine and chocolates do not merit mention other than the wine had the cutsie name of "House Swine: A Bottom-of-the-Barrel blend of Everything we Make" and that is the perfect description; that or a watery, sticky-sweet alcoholic kool-aid. I'm not sure i ever met our host and hostess, but the flashes of the their TV in the night didn't contribute much to our enjoyment of the hot tub or the ambiance of our room. there is no breakfast, only vouchers for some local establishments that expire at 11:00 am. (B&B stands for "Bed & Booze") Another thing: check out is 12:00, but don't expect any of the amenities to be available in the morning. the hot tub was being cleaned and the steam room was shut off. On the Plus Side: clean, nice comfortable bed, quiet location. I hope the owners read this - there was no evaluation sheet, and as previously mentioned, no contact from anyone regarding our stay.

It is unfortunate that you did not enjoy your stay as much as most of our other guests. For the knowledge of our future guests: the Bear Creek staff makes every effort to ensure the comfort of our guests, our cedar hot tub is an old fashioned soak and float hot tub instead of a jacuzzi and the temperature can be adjusted upon request to a max of 104 degrees, our amenities are available night and day and we encourage sunrise hot tubing, our wines have won awards at international wine competitions, evaluation sheets are provided in the rooms and were perhaps overlooked. A simple breakfast is provided in the kitchenette and our breakfast vouchers provide a great way to sample the local cuisine!

We stayed two nights in the Artic Suite on our honeymoon. The owners were just excited to have us. Showed us to our room which is like a duplex. Very clean and well kept. We only had a neighbor for one night but didn't disturb us at all. We grilled steaks each night on the deck with a really nice BBQ, They gave us breakfast vouchers and you can choose out of 5 restaurants and breakfast was good every morning and the limit is 11am which is great when you want to explore Homer. They had a fire pit and firewood to start our own fire. We did not have enough time though. Grounds were beautiful and homey. The hot tub was amazing! Quiet and relaxing. We went out the first day and they went in and did our dishes, put our luggage on luggage racks and hung up our towels, talk about full service. Now the wine, OMG! We went and tasted some wine and purchased a few bottles. My favorites were Blue Zin, Kiwi Pear, Strawberry Rhubarb. Delicious! You will not be disappointed!
