My husband ate fresh halibut fish and chips at several different restaurants and the ones at the Little Mermaid were hands down the best. My grilled halibut was awesome too. There are so many really great restaurants in Homer but this one is a must. It is small so make reservations.

A word of caution. Do not confuse Little Mermaid with Mermaid Cafe. We did this and were not aware that the beloved restaurant had moved so ate lunch at Mermaid. It was not as expected. Then we moved on to the Spit and there it was. Had to work up an appetite by shopping and strolling the beach. Stayed for the evening meal and was not disappointed. Little Mermaid is rather small so our party of six was seated in the sun room. The staff and owner were very nice, informative about the menu and friendly; we had the fish chowder, raw oysters, scallops and brandade as starters and rockfish as an entree. All were wonderful.

We were dismayed to find several restaurants closed on the Spit on a weeknight but we finally found the Mermaid. It's tiny but wonderful inside. The owner squeezed in our party of eight and fed the kids as quickly as possible. She was so nice to our whole family. The menu was amazing and we tried a little bit of everything, including the local mead. The halibut was good but the rockfish with the miso glaze was amazing. The view is outstanding. After the meal the owner brought out a map to show us some things to do in Homer. It was not cheap but the food and the company was well worth it. If you want cheap fried fish there are other options.

The hubby and I were in Homer for Memorial weekend and went looking for the Mermaid Cafe off main street. To our surprise, they have moved the restaurant onto the spit and have renamed it, "The Little Mermaid". Everything they have here is wonderful, but what they do to Rockfish should be illegal! It is firm, flaky and juicy on the inside with a seard crunchy miso crust on the outside. served with fresh grilled vegetables, it pairs nicely wth a good chardonnay or even a Malbec. The inside is a little cramped for space, but there is seating outside with a wonderfull view of the boat harbor. A must go to if you find yourself in Homer

Food was pretty good, service was good but overpriced!! Ordered the goat cheese filled dates - got 4 for $12 - pretty pricey!! The rest of the food was not memorable.
