“A great find in Homer”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

What a great restaurant. The food is amazing, and reasonably priced. The service was great, and everything we had was the best we've had in Homer (after 4 days). The fresh ingredients, and the creativity in the menu, as well as the local flair make this a must dine destination. We went early, it is small and fills up quick. Make a reservation, or spend time in the book store next to the restaurant, but don't miss The Mermaid Cafe.

“The Best!”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

The most memorable food here was a starter; sauteed scallops and house-made, spicy ice cream! I like the dinner menu that is posted on a blackboard every night, it tells me they re-think the food every night. It is all good and the cozy, book store influenced atmosphere takes you away from day-to-day thoughts. Possibly the best in Homer, Chef Evan is great!

Thank you so much for your great review. We do rethink the menu daily. I must admit, that while Evan is the owner and Chef, we've had an amazingly talented staff over the past 3 years, including Matthew Yore, who we are so thankful to have on our team, who continues to impress us and our customers with his progressive and innovative cooking!!!

“Completely Killer”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

Got to agree with the three other reviews here. This is a great little place (room for about 8 people to sit inside, but there are tables outside). My wife is a vegetarian, so it can be hard to find her food and feed me too. The Little Mermaid took care of us. I had a super bowl of fish chowder (for only 5 bucks, a real deal) and a delicious salmon burger. My wife had a grilled cheese sandwich with Gorgonzola Cheese, Caramelized Onions, tomato, etc on a pretzel bread. She told me it was the best grilled cheese sandwich she ever had! Monica is the server and she is a very upbeat young gal who is super helpful. The chef here is really great. I understand that he and is wife own the larger and very highly rated Mermaid Cafe in Old Town Homer next to the super Inlet Books.

Thank you for your great review. We try really hard to have items, such as the fabulous grilled cheese that your wife had, that allow variety for those on special diets at the same time keeping it fresh, delicious, and affordable. It is small inside but we have plans to expand sitting next year.

“Our favorite meal in Homer!”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

We thought this small restaurant prepared amazing fresh food. Their menu is very small, but nothing but fresh local food and the chef is very creative when it came to preparation. You may want to get here early to get a seat as it is very small, but we would go back for sure!

“Pretty place, ambitious menu”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

I had jumbo shrimp with jerk spices, which was great. The chalkboard menu emphasizes local ingredients. If you go at a busy time, call ahead to reserve. Looks like the local people love it, and rightly so.
