“Fantastic fresh food”
Reviewed August 11, 2009

This is the place to go to eat in Homer. Incredible, great fresh food, most of it organic. We had breakfast and dinner there. I had the best pancakes I ever had. Yes, service can be slow, but relax, have a good conversation, and anticipate a great meal. As we ate our brownie sundaes and fruit cobblers for dessert, the wife co-owner turned around in the next booth where she was visiting with a local and remarked that it was awful quiet over there. We replied the food was so good we couldn't talk. Her husband came out from the kitchen when we entered when he noticed my 14 year old son's Led Zeppelin shirt. He shared his personal experiences and love of the band with my mesmerized son. It's a really great place!!!

“Good wholesome dinning, even if it is organic.”
Reviewed July 31, 2009

A neat little place that I'm sure to revisit when I return to Homer. Very clean. Bright atmosphere with beautiful stained glass windows and paintings. The food was excellent. They have a focus on local organic cuisine, but they're not afraid to serve reindeer sausage and bacon. The wait staff was prompt and attentive, although perhaps a little too serious. The prices are agreeable. They also serve as a bakery, which is a little limiting but really incredible presentation and quality. The Fresh Sourdough Express is a must visit if you're in Homer. All the locals think so as well.

“A terrific restaurant in AK”
Reviewed December 3, 2008

Alaska is full of mediocre restaurants serving very expensive food, which is understandable, given that it is Alaska after all and most everything is flown in, frozen, then fried. This restaurant is an exception. On our August AK trip, we decided to "splurge" here after reading a good review in frommers and because we were saving a ton of money by paying a mere 8 bucks to pitch our tent on the homer spit, which is great by the way.

At this restaurant, the food is organic, original, healthy and fresh. We loved everything. The halibut I had probably came off the boat a block or two away that day. Moreover, the service is truly great. You are treated like family by the owners despite your tourist status and grubby clothes, and when I complimented my food to my server, who was one of the original owners, she not only gushed, she brought out the cook so she could hear it for herself. Great place, great food, great service. We'd return in a heartbeat.

For friendly, fresh, organic, and vegetarian fare, check out Sourdough (also the name given to newcomers to AK). It's casual and easy-going. Basically good eats, nothing fancy, but wholesome goodness.
