“Uninspired cuisine, at a price”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

Although the kids were happy with their selection from the children's menu, Mom and Dad were presented with unimaginative slabs of fish in disappointing sauces. The impression is of a restaurant shooting for haute cuisine, but falling far short of the target. Add a rather eye-watering tab, and you have an experience, which we will not be repeating.

“On a Par with the Best Dinning Anywhere”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

This is one of the finest places to dine not in Homer, not in Alaska, but anywhere. My wife and I are foodies. We have dined at some of the finest restaurants in the world and the Homestead, unpretentiously, measures up. We both had the special grilled Halibut over basmati rice with a cream pesto sauce to the side. I had the Caesar Salad, my wife had a house salad with cranberries and candied pecans. The Salads were perfectly mixed, the dressing coating the lettuce evenly. The halibut was grilled perfectly, the fish just cooked through, firm and flaky on the fork. It was the cream pesto sauce however that will remain in the memory of our palates forever. Not thick or watery, its pesto flavor perhaps understated, it complemented the fish perfectly. The only seafood meal that compares in my experience was a dinner of Aku and Ono at Mama’s Fishhouse on Maui.

“Fresh Halibut was Amazing, Ribeye cooked to perfection”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

One of us ordered the fresh halibut special, it was amazingly fresh and tasty. I chose to try the ribeye, it was that good. Absolutely loved the ribeye medium to rare and the rest of the plate was great too. Everything were carefully prepared! We were pleasantly surprised by the appetizer calamari, tender insider, crispy outside! Service was great with our reservation, we got seated right away after we walked into the door. Others was waiting. It did seem to get busies after 7pm. Even with a large wedding party in the West Wing , we were able to enjoy a quiet dinner at the East Wing. The views outside the window was beautiful this time of the year, pink fireweed, blue colored bay and kenai mountains, what a treat.

“Maybe we went on a bad day”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

We drove a couple of hours to try to get some of this good seafood. We asked that our fish be less cooked and was assured by the server that they cook the fish less here. Well, it was overcooked and dry. We also ordered oysters on the half shell. The oysters were good, but there was no juice in any of the shells. I am rating this generously at "average" thinking that we were there on a bad day. Agree with another reviewer that the décor was old fashion with white tablecloths.

“Superior service, very good food”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

The Homestead is 8.2 mi. outside of Homer, but it's a pleasant drive (grass was being bailed as we drove through the countryside). The waitstaff was unusually personable and provided a very good atmosphere. The king crab was excellent, sweet and juicy. The halibut was very good also, if perhaps just a tad dry, but that may be due simply to the method of cooking.
