“Extraordinary First Anniversary Thanks to Doug and Sue”
Reviewed July 11, 2012

Incredible! We stayed in the Kachemak room and my in-laws stayed in Captain's Quarters. We spent our days in Homer halibut fishing, exploring the eclectic town, hiking, and sitting in Doug's awesome hot tub. It is an "old school" hot tub that is heated with a fire. When you are sitting in it there is usually a Bald Eagle perched above you as you gaze over the Homer Spit. We had a Keurig in our room so we enjoyed different coffees and teas at all hours of the day. It was our first anniversary and there was a special cheesecake in our room that we enjoyed very much, along with all of the other delicious baked goods that were baked daily. Doug was so hospitable and told us many stories of adventure, animals, and life in Homer. We still talk about his hike with his daughter where they were dodging bears and scaling cliffs. I highly recommend the Alaska Beach House. It is a true Alaskan experience.

Room Tip: The Kachemak room has a jet tub, Keurig machine, reclining sofa, and above all an amazing view with...

We spent two nights in the Compass Rose Quarters. This is a stand alone structure that is built on the bluffs overlooking the beach and Kachemak Bay. It is about 20-30 feet from the main building. There is a seaside balcony with amazing views of the Spit, bay, and ice-covered mountains. The Quarters has a comfortable king bed. There are two very comfortable recliners in the sitting area. From your bed or recliners, you can look at the scenery from the sliding glass doors or windows. There also is a small table next to the seaside windows to enjoy breakfast with a view. Speaking of breakfast, Doug and Sue provided slices of delicious, homemade carrot cake slices and pumpkin bread to enjoy for breakfast. Yogurt, fresh fruit, orange juice, and packets of hot chocolate, tea, and oatmeal were also provided. There is also a Koenig coffee maker stocked with gourmet coffee. There is a small fridge and mircrowave.
We loved the construction and furnishings in the Quarters. The building has high ceiling with exposed trusses. There is a round window on the upper south side of the building and an octagonal window high on the north side. With exception of these windows there are blinds or shades for the windows and sliding glass door. SInce the two upper windows are located high on the walls and on the north and south side, there amount of light coming in during dusk was not a major issue. The Quarters has a large shower. A hair dryer is also provided. As is the custom in most Alaskan B&B's, you are asked to remove your shoes before stepping on the carpets. There is a hot tub, but we did not use it. Doug and Sue's granddaughters were using it when we arrived, and seemed to be enjoying it immensely.

The balcony is amazing. It is cantilevered from the structure and overlooks the beach below. While on the balconies, numerous eagles flew over our heads and nearby over the water. Doug and Sue are great hosts and can provide good information about activitiies in Homer. We stayed for two nights, but I wish we had stayed at least three.

Room Tip: If it can fit your budget, stay in the Compass Rose Quarters.

We spend 3 nights in the Trophy Room, celebrating our wedding anniversary. Sue made us a delicious cake for that occasion!
The views of Kachemak Bay, the mountains and the Homer Spit are breathtaking, and you can take the stairs from the property along the cliff to walk on the beach.
Every evening, when we got back to the Beach House after a long cruise on the Bay, Doug had fired up the hot tub and we could soak for a long while, looking at the scenery, while the neighborhood bald eagle was watching us from a tree above.
Quiet and relaxing nights. Good advice from our hosts on places to visit or where to eat.

We recently spent two nights at this quaint inn. The owners are very friendly and provided some great things/places to see while we stayed in Homer. The inn is on a bluff over looking the bay with beautiful views of the bay and surrounding snow capped mountains. The property is the last one on the bluff with a tall tree. Every night a pair of bald eagles landing in the tree as it was a perfect viewing spot for spotting fish on the bay. We stayed in the Captain's Quarters room. It was great for us, a couple, but would have been small for a family. The view from the room was spectular.

I had a wonderful time at the Beach House for four days in June 2012. I was at a conference that was occurring down the Homer spit and was glad to have the beach house to come back to, relax in, and enjoy the beautiful view. Doug and Sue were vey kind and accommodating....I look forward to returning here in a few years with my partner!

We spend three nights in the Rose Quarter. This is one of the nicest accommodations we've ever had and we traveled a lot so far. Everything is great at this place: the breakfast (self made bread), the bed is huge and cosy, the view from the bed or the balcony (directly to the sea, to the snow covered mountains) and you have direct beach access. From the beach you could see Sea Otters lying in the water. The couple is really nice and helpful. You have big TV seats, where you could lie back, really relaxing. You have your own microwave and coffee machine. When you have luck you could see moose in the garden. It's very quiet you just hear the waves. When you go there try out Fin's Pizza Place at Homer Spit. It's delicious. It's a must to book this location and this house. Just do it you will enjoy every minute.

Room Tip: Rose Quarter House, sorry there is no fitness center

Our stay at the Alaska Beach House B&B was perfect. Great location, beautiful views of Kachemak Inlet, and very interesting and accommodating hosts. The room was very warm and cozy and the breakfast baked goodies delicious. We would love to revisit Homer and the B&B.
