“Nice Place”

Very congenial host although he was not there when we arrived. Very helpful making suggestions for what to do. Very nice view. Cook your own breakfast which seems common in Alaska, but no place should get a five star for this reason. Nice thing is that host was around to make sure we could find food to make breakfast and food choices were better than average and host washes dishes.

Our stay at Good Karma was wonderful in many ways -- our host took the time to chat about the house construction and his life in Homer. The very spacious, bright, clean rooms with glorious views were a welcomed gift in our Alaska travels.

After two weeks of travel in Alaska, I saved the best for last, staying at the Good Karma inn for 2 nights. The beauty and serenity of this log home with it's breath-taking, soul-filling view was just what I needed. In addition to the natural beauty that surrounds Good Karma, the Inn is filled with inspirational art by local artists that celebrates the natural world. The minute I took off my boots at the front door (an Alaskan custom in many B&B's), I knew I was home.

Michael LeMay, the owner and builder, was my host and was most helpful in making recommendations for discovering the best of Homer, though I would have been content just sitting on the deck off my bedroom. Breakfast was do-it-yourself with a wide variety of options though Michael was always up before me and had the coffee waiting.

Next time I will bring my own shampoo and conditioner because I wasn't too crazy about using Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap on my hair even though I know it is good for the environment!

  • Liked — The location and natural beauty of the home.
  • Disliked — The shampoo!

Homer: Good Karma Inn Bed & Breakfast: Fantastic place to stay
Date: July 11, 2008
Reviewer: Bruce and Sandy Rose, Winston-Salem, NC

We have just returned from a two week stay in Alaska. We like to stay in Bed & Breakfast places, and satyed in three different ones this trip in various parts of Alaska. We found the Good Karma Inn to be absolutely fantastic. Michael, the owner, is a contracter by trade, and has built this beautiful log cabin-style home himself. The home is adorned with great wood carvings, and a number of works of art, all denoting Alaska wildlife. All four of the bedrooms look out on a gorgeous panoramic view of snow -covered moutains, which includes 4 glaciers, and the south end of the Homer "Spit", a long peninsula that juts from the town of Homer, Alaska into the Pacific Ocean.

Michael was a very gracious host, and was very helpful in giving us ideas off things to do and places to go in Homer and the surrounding area. In preparation for our trip, we researchered many B&B's in Alaska, and chose the Good Karma Inn as one we wanted to stay in. The Good Karma more than met our expectations.

If you enjoy the concept of Bed & Breakfast stays, where you can get excellent accommodations for a reasonable price, be away from the crowdedness of hotels, like fantastic views, and enjoy meeting interesting people, then we would highly recommend the Good Karma Inn.

We recently returned from a fantastic three-night stay at the Good Karma Inn in Homer. The view could not have been more beautiful. Our room (as do all of the 4 rooms) had a large picture window that looked out over Kachemak Bay and the glacier-filled mountains beyond. The Inn itself was also beautiful. A spacious, clean, and modern log cabin filled with local works of art. Our hosts, Michael and his dog Miss Sophie, were extremely helpful in suggesting things to do and places to eat. We have fallen in love with the Homer area and the Good Karma Inn and plan to return next year.

Your friendly host, Mike LeMay has built this beautiful alpine-style log house with four bedrooms on a hill overlooking Kachemak Bay, Grewingk Glacier and the Homer Spit--a few miles east of town. Besides the breathtaking views from the deck, it was nice to walk the rural streets with Mike's dog Sophie tagging along. The kitchen was ours to make our own breakfast from lots of choices. The rooms were lovely, beautifully appointed, everything is pretty new and spotlessly clean. And Mike has lots and lots of books to read on everything from A to Z (Alaska to Zen). I wish we had spent more time here--one day we did nothing but sit & read on the deck & soak in the view, while my brother & his wife did what many people come to Homer to do: went Halibut fishing. There's a very good restaurant nearby and a general store with gourmet deli and post office in one. Plus Homer has bars, restaurants, galleries and shops.

We stayed at the Good Karma Inn, one of Homer's newer B&Bs, for two nights and thought it was fantastic. A two-story log structure, its design is very well thought out to minimize noise from other rooms. It is beautifully decorated with some interesting features, and all the rooms have exquisite views of the water. The two upper rooms share a deck, and a well-stocked kitchen is available to guests. The host, who was not on-site during our stay because the inn was full to capacity, nevertheless was nearby and always available via cell phone. He did join us for breakfast, and we found him to be most helpful with recommendations for activities, scenic drives and good restaurants. We highly recommend the Good Karma Inn to anyone who plans to visit Homer. This was one of those happy surprises where the actual place surpasses one's expectations from the website (and he has a pretty good website).
