“Amazing accomodation in Homer”
Reviewed January 13, 2010

During our long vacation in Alaska, in july 2009, we opted to spend 4 nights in Homer and booked a room in the Bluffview Lodge at the Driftwood Inn.

We can honestly say that everything there was beyond our expectations.
The room was nicely furnished, spacious and very luminous: the view of Bishop’s Beach and Kachemak Bay from all the windows and the terrace was fantastic and every morning, while enjoying breakfast, we could spot bald eagles and cranes. There was a lot of space in the walk-in closet and the bathroom featured a jacuzzi and a huge shower. In the ground floor of the Bluffview Lodge guests can also use a communal kitchen, well stocked with all the accessories, and a living room.
The rooms were very clean and the staff was always friendly and helpful.

Homer is a place worth visiting and a perfect base to take a floatplane to Katmai National Park to admire (and take beautiful photos of) grizzly bears fishing salmon. An experience we'll never forget.

Hopefully we'll go back there again in the future, possibly staying at the Driftwood Inn.

We stayed in the downstairs room with rear private entrance and were simply blown away by the view, the new, sparkling clean and spacious bedrooms and public living areas. The color scheme in that particular room -- bright green -- might not be to everyone's tastes but it's so very comfortable and it's nice to be able to slip out to the back deck by your own private entrance. We only wished that we could walk down to the beach from the backyard via a nice cleared path. Instead we had to walk down the street to get on the beach. We stayed all over Alaska in everything from tents and restored rail cars to private guest house and ski lodge condo and this was everyone's favorite lodging. Book the whole place: perfect for a wedding party, family reunion...

We had a great time at this newer lodge right on the beach. Gorgeous views and all facilities were clean and available. You can even barbecue outside! There are decks and balconies to have a glass of wine and enjoy the beach. we even had live entertainment as kids were playing music and had a bonfire on the Homer beach below. Of course, it helped that the weather was perfect! All my relatives wanted to move to Homer. If you go shoulder season, it is an even better deal. Really a gorgeous and convenient place to stay in Homer.

Stayed the first night in one of the older rooms with bunk beds that the kids loved. Very noticeable was the level of cleanliness of the room, which can be a deal breaker for us. The room was spotless and smelled fresh. Next two nights,we moved to the lodge portion of the property. The view of the sunsets and rises was truly fine. We got some very nice pics out the windows. The use of the common area in the lodge made our stay even better. Cleanliness in this room was also first rate. The beds were very comfortable as well. There was no phone in either room (we use cell anyway) and the only internet is pay-per-use that I gave up trying to purchase. Next trip I will have roaming enabled on my EVDO cellular internet card and that wont be an issue.
The staff here must also be mentioned as very courteous and helpful and we enjoyed meeting them.

Homer, Alaska in and of itself is an incredible city to visit, but add staying at the Driftwood Inn and you now have an incredibly memorable visit. The Driftwood Inn not only boasts the Historic Inn but also has various Lodges on the gorgeous Kachemak Bay. We stayed in the modern Seaside Lodge, a "house" transformed into a lodge. The house: kitchen and living area is shared by the guests while each bedroom has its own private bath and locked privacy. It's accommodations are pristine and luxurious, and even with its modern architechture/ ammenities it offers a comfortable, homey atmosphere, much like the city of Homer itself. The views are unparalleled, even without use of the telescope on the upstairs landing, with a huge backyard butting right up to the beachfront. If we would have known about this gem earlier - we would have stayed much longer. And upon our return it will definitely be where we will stay!

My dad and I stayed three nights at the Driftwood. The people who worked at the Inn were really friendly and helpful, even loaning me rain gear one day. The rooms are very unique and had everything we needed. The location is awesome because you can walk out on the beach from your room and see a venting volcano. We fished one day with the Driftwood Charters and had a great day. We did well fishing, saw whales, and the captain and first mate were nice, helpful guys. They made sure we had everything we needed and had an enjoyable outing.

We stayed in the RV section of the Inn. Our motor home overlooked the Kachemark Bay and we woke up every morning to a great view and fresh coffee in the office. We especially enjoyed the handy laundry and showers. With six in the motor home, a separate shower was very handy to get us all out and moving in the morning. The town was just a short walking distance away and we really enjoyed the recommended restaurants the staff at the Inn suggested. We really enjoyed the staff's helpfulness and friendliness.

We enjoyed the site enough to return for another stay as we made our way back around the Kenai.
