“Cozy little Hotel close to the fishing”
Reviewed June 17, 2009

The hotel was a nice, cozy, clean hotel with a friendly staff and great coffee. The fishing in Homer is Spot on with Limits the norm. The hotel is great and has a nice playground perfect for small children and families. Washer Dryer amenities and close to the stores and shops. Beds are comfortable and clean. The TV had a channels from everywhere and the receptions was perfect. Two thumbs up!

The staff was extremely friendly and very accomdating, with no problem they were able to upgrade my room. I stayed in Rm 30, it was breathe taking. The most beautiful view of the inlet, I had my own private deck, a jacuzzi tub and three shower heads not that they were needed but it was definately nice. The bed was comfortible like sleeping on a cloud. I spent the night enjoying a glass of wine as the sunset. The living room was shared between 5 room and even then it was almost as relaxin as a spa treatment. It was worth the price, after staying at the driftwood i wouldnt reccomend any other place. If you ever decide to stop and stay in Homer definately stop in and at least have someone show you this room trust me its worth it all for such peaceful nights sleep.

We read good things about the place and booked it online. Fortunately, we booked only one night in September. We were on a budget and took their cheapest room with private bath for $75. They called the room ship’s quarter. No kidding – you opened the door and the bed was right there. No room for chair, table or closet (see photo), and needless to say no frig. There were two drawers under the queen size bed for carry on luggage. If you have suitcases, keep them in the car. At least our car was literally two steps from the door. TV was strapped high above the bed. No internet access.

The worst feature of the room was the bed. It was sinking and they tried to improve it by adding a memory foam topper. The result was: every time we moved in our sleep, the whole bed bounced like jello and the foam topper keep shifting out of the bed making the one sleeping on the outside felt like falling off the bed. Was this their idea of sleeping on a ship?! We could not sit on the bed and lean our backs against the wall neither because there were shelves on the walls.

At least the bathroom was clean. However, all our changing clothes got wet once we closed the shower curtain and turned the faucet on. The joint between the shower head and the water pipe leaked and shot out squirts of water like jet streams in all directions.

The hotel was only a block from the beach but we could not see the ocean from the ground floor. The hotel was set up like a B & B and they did offer breakfast but it was not free. There are much better choices and better value in town.

  • Liked — The neighbor across the street has a cute looking house.
  • Disliked — The bed

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to comment on your visit with us. While most of our guests have a wonderful stay here, at the Driftwood Inn, we are always looking for ways to improve so that we can ensure that all our guests enjoy their stay.

Since your stay we have replaced all our mattresses with top of the line new ones. You may not be aware of our deluxe rooms which offer king size beds and overlook the beach with beautiful views, and may have accommodated you much better. We still do offer our economy rooms with the built in bed against the wall. They are most sought after by local fisherman from Anchorage who want a nice, clean room with a comfortable bed and a hot shower. These represent some of the only rooms in Homer under $100.

Thank you for your positive comment on the cleanliness of the room. We take pride in a spotless room.

Sincerely, Adrienne

Stayed in the smaller of the cottages. For $275 a night had enough room to sleep 8 and a great view of the ocean. Would highly recommend. Planning to go back next year!

We recently spent 6 days at the end of July and had a wonderful experience. Newer facilty, awesome view right on the bank overlooking the bay and inlet. Snow capped mountains, ocean close enough to smell and hear. We had a second story with balcony which is big enough for table 4 chairs and lots of room. Very clean well decorated, big kitchen/living area on main floor was great. Nice grass lawn with steps leading down to ocean for walks, exploring, rock "treasure" hunting, it was a blast. The staff was very accomodating and polite. Very refreshing after a vacation in the US Virgin Islands where it was the opposite. The property offers and makes arrangements for side trips such as fishing, site seeing by water. I will recommend to family and friends.

  • Liked — Location and staff
  • Disliked — With the small size you get great attention but not large enough for a retreat with my sales staff.

We actually parked an RV at the Driftwood Inn and RV Park. We paid about $33 a night for full hook-ups and a seaside view. It must be said that the RV park is nothing much more than a small parking lot stuff tight with RVs and it's really not exactly right on the water - there's a road in between; however, the showers, and laundry area were impeccable. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. It was also conveniently located across the street from Duggan's Pub! We would stay here again.

Stayed at Driftwood Inn for 3 nights in early July. Very reasonable rates for peak summer period. We were in the original part of the Inn which is very old and nostalgic. European style shared bathrooms. Which were clean and easy to use never ran into anyone trying to use at the same time. Rooms are very small with bunk style bedding configurations (double on bottom twin on top). Sink in the room which was nice, had to go down stairs for coffee in the morning. We had a room over looking Kachemak Bay which was nice. Only thing that bothered us was the fact they did not put us in the room we booked originally room (7) on the corner with two windows and one double bed. Moved us to a bunk style (room 9) when we inquired about it they said they had already informed us about the move which they did not in any way, and were not accomodating in changing us back. Saying that the room was booked already (no one checked into room 7 until our last night there) so that was not a great part of our stay but not being in the room that much we got over it. There is a road in the back of the Inn facing the bay and it can be noisy as cars drive on it and park there for the Inn. Driftwood suited our needs and it was fair to say it was nice to stay there despite the problem with our room change.
