Captain Dave of Time Out Charters was great - he was very friendly and we enjoyed getting to know him and of course the halibut fishing. Even though the weather wasn't great - he did his best to make our trip successful and fun. It was both! We brought home plenty of halibut and had a great time in the process. Spit Sisters lunches were great too. I would definitely recommend Captain Dave at Time Out Charters over any of the "bigger" guys.

Eclectic, funky, great spot to pick up a halibut trip or sightseeing to Seldovia.

My husband and I recommend the 1/2 day Halibut fishing trip with Rainbow Charters in Homer, Alaska. We found the crew very helpful and competent. Everyone on board caught their 2 Halibut limit. Would recommend wearing waterproof boots and gloves, dressing in layers, bringing a snack or lunch, and hat. Also a camera and binoculars, we saw a humpback whale, sea otters, seals and puffins during the trip.

The Homer Spit is a stretch of land that extends out for about two miles into Kachemak Bay. It is quite narrow with a two lane highway going up the middle and then halfway up gift shops, stores, restaurants, and charter companies on each side. There is also an RV park. The Spit is a fun place to spend a few hours popping in and out of shops. There is also Captain Pattie's restaurant, the best on The Spit and probably in Homer. There is a lot of free parking along the road. At the very end of The Spit and I mean THE very end is the Land's End hotel which is the only hotel on The Spit. We didn't stay there, but had drinks on the large porch connected to the lounge. If the weather is nice I would definitely recommend having a drink or two out there. You look right out over the water. It was very tranquil.

We visited Homer Spit at the end of our trip so we were getting a little weary of the Alaska souvenir scene. However we enjoyed two of our best meals here (Fresh Catch and Finn's Pizza) as well as taking a trip to Halibut Cove on the Danny J. ferry. Look past the souvenir shops and you will see beautiful scenery: glaciers, mountains and a beautiful bay.
