Owner description: We provide guided bear viewing trips into Katmai and Lake Clark National Parks. We will ensure an intimate experience into the wilderness as seen in the Disney movie "Bears". We usually limit our groups sizes up to six, but can accommodate larger parties. Our guided trips depart Beluga Lake in Homer and Lake Hood in Anchorage. You will enjoy an incredible sightseeing flight (45-90min) over the "Ring of Fire" volcanoes, glaciers, and wilderness in route to where the bears are most numerous. We provide hip waders, snacks, water, and light rain gear. Our trips start at $599 a person. Note: Guests need to be capable of walking several hundred yards in sand and mud. Join us for a "Bucket List Experience"!!

Charlie, the owner and our guide, seemed to be a careful and safe flyer. He took pains to give us a thorough safety briefing and had along emergency equipment, so we felt that we were in good hands. We flew about half an hour across the Cook Inlet and landed on the shore of Chintna Bay in Lake Clark Park.
We were amazed to see the number of brown bears in the vicinity. A sow and cubs, and 3-4 others all quite near. Charlie saw to it that we observed saftey procedures to avoid disturbing the animals. The bears were close enough for plenty of good photos without a telephoto lens. Charlie was a good guide with a lot of bear lore and respect for the wildlife.
After we took off, Charlie circled the shore of the bay, and we saw even more bears from the air. This flight was a highlight of our visit.

We just got back from our trip with Charlie today. He is not only an amazing pilot but a funny informative guide. Flying between incredible landscapes we also saw many whales which was not expected. Watching the bears up close with Charlie was an emotional but tranquil experience to be remembered for a lifetime. If we ever come back to Homer, we will definitely fly with him again.

Charlie Tochtermann provided a very pleasant and informative 3 1/2 hour trip to Clark Lake National Park where 16 brown bears foraged in the sedge grass. The closest was a sow and two January cubs. In time the cubs signaled that they wanted to nurse. She sat down and gently rolled on to her back. They climbed on and began to nurse. Charlie said he had only seen that a few times before. ... We took two trips with Charlie on our last trip to Alaska and are planning another one with him this year. The Bear viewing is AMAZING!!! Seeing those animals in person takes your breath away. Charlie will take you on an up close and natural encounter with brown bears.

We also flew out and fished for red salmon. Limited out within the hour, the water was boiling with sockeye!!

Both of the flights offered incredible sights. Highly recommend this outfit.

This 45-minute floatplane ride over the glaciers across the bay from Homer was awe-inspiring to say the least. Charlie (pilot and owner) is as funny as he is skilled. Don't miss this adventure!
