We read the brochures and decided that we needed to head to Seldovia on the Ferry. We did use the buy one get one free coupon from the Toursaver Book (or Northern Lights) Coupon Book so that saved us some money. We took the afternoon Ferry Ride as it was supposed to take an additional half an hour to stop at Gull Island and the bird rookeries. The problem with the afternoon ride is that you only get 45 minutes at Seldovia if you want to get the last ferry back (at least in May). We heard another couple on the Ferry say they were concerned they weren't going to have enough time to see Seldovia, and then when they were boarding for the return, they said, "sure glad we didn't have more time - there was nothing to see that even took the 45 minutes." -- and that was our feeling exactly. There were restaurants and tourist shops -- not much else. The harbor is pretty - but not much different than Homer. The Ferry did not take its time or slow to show us anything or any animals in the harbour as stated........................so not worth it.
A bright spot is that the Ferry is a first class vessel -- very new, and very clean and comfortable with seating outside as well as inside. If you have some reason to be at Seldovia - the Ferry is a nice way to get there. In hindsight, we wouldn't have gone there.
