This is a basic motel, but the view was fabulous. We could see sea otters from our room (and deck). We were comfortable and happy.

From the road, you would never know how comfortable this little gem of a motel is. I'm so glad that we researched TripAdvisor and found Ocean Shores before arriving at Homer. The price is in keeping with other properties in Homer, but the difference is the service that you receive here.

Pam is wonderful. When we checked in, she offered us maps of the town, and recommendations on where to go, where to dine (Captain Patties and Fat Olives!) and sights to see. She was so helpful! If not for her, we would have spent valuable time just getting our bearings, and we only had a day and a night in Homer.

We loved the quaint landscaping and simple decor of the grounds and rooms. The hotel itself was so peaceful and tranquil, we loved walking around the grounds and beach. The path to the beach is quite steep, so be careful, but it's so beautiful. Photographers' paradise.

The room decor is simple, but in Alaska, who stays in the room and watches TV anyway?! We had the most amazing view of the ocean and snow-capped mountains right out our huge picture window or from the deck. There was a fridge and a microwave. If you like coffee, you might want to bring your own (they have Folger's Coffee Bags) or eat breakfast at Sourdough Express Restaurant. Yum, yum.

Beds were not the most comfortable in the world, but we didn't spend that much time sleeping. Another reviewer mentioned a smell in their room. Ours smelled fresh and was SO clean! Someone also mentioned people upstairs. Our building was single-story so we fortunately did not have that problem. Our only problem was that we could not stay another night. Thank you Ocean Shores!

Room Tip: Terrace rooms have great views, are single-story (no one walking above you), and are less expensive! :)

I would have rated this hotel poor but we stayed at LAND'S END our second night for the same room rate and it was 10 times better. We got a balcony room with a lani on the ocean for $180/night. There were two tv's one upstairs and one down. The king size bed was very comfortable and there was a couch and chair in the sitting area downstairs. We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant and it was excellent!
The stay at the ocean shore started with a terrible smell in the room. A cross between wet dog and old cheese. We told the maid about it and she said it was probably fish and she sprayed deodorizer. It didn't help! I think they let the fish sleep in the bad or something! The room was poorly decorated, no headboards, some random tables and an old tv. About right for Alaska but not for the price. The people upstairs arrived at 10:30 p.m. and went to bed at 2 a.m. I know this because the uninsulated wooden floors make it seem like they are in the room with you! At least we got up before them and were awake when they started the morning walkabout! Don't make the same mistake we did. Stay at the Land's End!

This hotel/motel was VERY expensive for a 2-3 star stay. The room creaked and groaned whever anyone walked. TV was subpar, circa 2000. Suggested ocean/bayview is wishful. Terrible hard pillows.
All in all, this hotel reminded me of an army barrack.

Ok this is not the Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt or Ritz but is a wonderful place to stay. Beautiful views from the back decks of the rooms. Very clean. Comfortable beds. Spacious rooms. Enjoyed walking on the beach and talking with some of the locals. Pam is beyond nice. She told us about a scenic drive out of town that we thoroughly enjoyed. Recommended Captain Patties for dinner which was the best food we had the three weeks we were in Alaska. My only regret is that we did not allow for more time in Homer. I really wished my husband and I could have gone halibut fishing. This is the one place I would recommend anyone traveling to Alaska to visit. Nice People. Gorgeous scenery. Thanks Pam, you made our stay in Homer unforgettable.
