“OK but costly”
Reviewed September 19, 2006

Stayed September 12, 2006 for one night. Room was on the first floor and was a Midship Bay Side, bay view room with a "bay" window and two beds.

Positives: Great view from the restaurant and bay view rooms, clean, comfortable beds, wireless Internet from lobby and also rooms close to the lobby (free sign up for the service is necessary and you must sign in each hour of use), restaurant was fine for lunch and dinner. Try Sourdough Express in town for breakfast (and dinner during the summer season).

Negatives: view rooms had at a premium price, two beds pretty much filled the room but the bay window gave room for a small table, public beach strollers can look into first floor windows, room walls are thin, walking and toilet flushing on the floor above can clearly and loudly be heard although the ceiling had soundproofing tiles in a failed attempt to reduce noise, no elevator for upper floors.

  • Disliked — Room noise
  • Tips/Secrets — Stay above first floor even though there are no elevators.

The only room left when we booked was the two room suite, I think it was called a superior suite. It was HUGE (was two big for just my husband and I). It had a room with a queen bed and a twin sized murphy bed that room had a tv and vcr/dvd player. The second room was the one with the views. It had a king size bed, tv/vcr/dvd player. It had a mini fridge and a dinette. There was a door and a tiny balcony. We loved this room. The views from the room were second to none. It was just beautiful. We sat on the bed and watched boats come and go and the waves come in. We took a walk on the beach area by the hotel and found jellyfish! (it isn't a swimable beach anyway) There was also tons of starfish. They were so neat to watch. We also watched local fishermen catching fish on the shore. We booked massages at the spa the day we arrived. It was $75 for an hour. That is pretty reasonable. The massage rooms were awesome. They had a huge picture window and views of the water. It is on the top floor of the hotel so no one can see in anyway. The hotel restaurants were ok, kind of pricey though. But most meals are in Alaska. Homer was ok, most stuff was closing down as it was almost Labor Day. The hotel was an awesome stay. Keep in mind there is not air conditioning, but it was great to sleep with the window and door open anyway.

  • Liked — The view was great and our room was outstanding.
  • Disliked — The pool and hot tub were small.
  • Tips/Secrets — Book the superior room, it was awesome! And get a massage!
