We had a very dissappointing time fishing for halibut on the Memory Maker Charters in Homer.
[FYI: We had another charter scheduled (we did alot of research and found a skipper with lots of experience and highly recommended), but due to family issues he had to cancel and recommended that we go with his friend on the Memory Maker.]
Our main problem with Capt. Bruce is not that we were fishing for at least 4 hours without catching a single halibut or even getting bites. Our problem is his lack of communication skills. The captain knew that this was the first time we had been halibut fishing, but he repeatedly snapped at us. We paid a subtantial amount of money for this fishing trip and we expected someone that would have more patience, calm, and professionalism that we experienced.
The bottom line: There are tons of fishing charters in Homer .... Do yourself a favor and pick a different charter and don't risk having as dissappointing of a time as we had. This was the low point of our 16 days in Alaska.
We were able to catch 2 small halibut each before the end of the day, but overall we did not have much fun during the trip. The Memories we Made were not ones that we would like to remember about Alaska.
