We stayed at the Birch cabin for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's the ideal location to visit the park being only 12 miles away, which is close enough for early morning starts but far enough away from the tourist strip at Denali. The room was comfortable and warm, Ann-Marie and Ted were friendly and very helpful. The baked goodies were an ideal way to start our early mornings. If you aren't into the usual touristy feel accommodation you'll love this alternative.

Ted and Ann Marie are great people and the Aspenhaus is a nice place to stay at when visiting Denali. It's a short drive to the park with clean rooms at a decent price. They aren't a full B&B in terms of the food options, but they warn you about that on the website, so don't miss that. They do make some very nice baked breads and scones for breakfast though! We also saw the only fox during our trip to Denali while driving the small road up to the cabins! I'd easily recommend staying here to anyone visiting.

We stayed in the Spruce cabin for 2 nights August 4 and 5. The cabin was the smallest of the group but was very comfortable for 2 and the value was exceptional. Ted met us on arrival and provided good advice for our journey into Denali the next day. After a full day in the park, we called Ann Marie to ask for directions to find some groceries in the area. Our search for fresh veggies was somewhat disappointing, but when we returned to the cabin, Ann Marie brought over a cutting board full of fresh organic produce along with an assortment of dressing and bread and we had a perfect light supper with wine on the porch....we would never find such gracious hospitality in the hotels near glitter gulch ! The next morning when we were loading the car to leave, she brought out some fresh fruit "that she just happened to be cutting up for the days baking"..yeah right...what a delightful hostess...we will recommend this property to all of our friends when they plan to go to Denali...and we will certainly look forward to staying with Ann Marie and Ted when we return. Thank you both !!! Jerry and Cathie Anderson

My wife and I stayed in Willow cabin for three nights. Ann Marie and Ted the owners/operators are full of knowledge about the area and the park. They are super friendly. The baked goods were awesome; I'd rather have them than any hotel breakfast.

The cabins are clean and look fairly new. Willow has a full size bed and a single bed. We used the single to lay out our suitcases.
The bed was comfortable.

The drive to the park is not horrible actually on the way back one night we saw the only fox for the trip walking down the dirt road. 49 th state brewery is only a mile away and has great beer and food.

I can't say enough about Aspen-Haus. I hope that we can make another trip to Alaska and will definitely stay here again.

A note if you stay in the Willow cabin the hot water is also connected to the community washing machine. We always had hot water but just so others know.

We stayed here 2 nights in the Birch Cabin. Very comfortable & clean. Ann Marie bakes great breakfast breads. Basic mini fridge & microwave + coffee maker. Great location about 15 minutes north of Park entrance. Had a moose walk in front of our car! Extremely windy & cool so didn't get to enjoy front porch.

On a somewhat last-minute trip to the Denali area, we called the Aspen Haus looking for a room reservation and were lucky enough to have called right after they had received a cancellation, so we were very fortunate that there was one cabin available for our stay. The hostess, Ann Marie, let us know that the only cabin available was the largest one, a two-bedroom cabin (the "Alder Cabin," I believe it was), and given that there was only two of us we probably didn't need that much space. We were willing to take it anyway, but she gave us the names of a couple of other local places that might have smaller cabins available, and suggested that we check with those first to see if any of them had a cabin that might fit our needs better. (How often do you hear of someone turning away potential business so their guests might be happier and save money?) We did check, but still preferred the Aspen Haus, so we called back and made the reservation.

I'm glad we did. When we arrived, Ann Marie greeted us but told us she and her husband were on their way out the door because they had a reservation at a nice nearby restaurant for a special celebratory dinner with friends, so she asked their very nice and gracious teenage daughter, Isabel, to take us to our cabin and get us set up. The cabin was very homey, and while it was in fact larger than what we needed, it was nice to have all the extra room. The main bedroom (the one we slept in), with a queen bed, was walled off from the other rooms in the cabin with no windows in the room, so with the door closed it got very dark in there and it made for nice sleeping protected from the glare of the late-night and early-morning Alaska sumertime sunlight. The second (larger) bedroom--which we just used for our suitcases--had three beds (one double and two singles) that itself could've easily accomodated 4 people. This would be a great cabin for two couples to share, or for a large family. The cabin wasn't super-fancy, but it was clean, fairly new and modern (though still in a "rustic" looking way), and well-equipped. It was very comfortable.

Full hot breakfasts aren't served, but every day fresh-baked breads and baked breakfast items (muffins, blueberry coffee cake, etc.) are delivered to the room for the next morning's breakfast. Every day brings a different kind of bread and a different kind of baked breakfast sweet, all of which Ann Marie makes in her kitchen that day. And they are all absolutely delicious--she is a wonderful baker.

The location is a little off the beaten path--you definitely have to go there intentionally, because you sure won't happen upon it accidentally--but it's only a couple of minutes back to the main highway to Denali/Anchorage/Fairbanks, and only about 12 miles north of the Denali National Park entrance. It's far enough to be away from the Denali crowds, but close enough to be a perfect place to use a home base for a Denali visit. There isn't much in the way of nearby stores with food and supplies to buy for those who prefer to fix their own meals at their cabin (there isn't a full kitchen anyway--just a fridge, microwave, toaster, and plates, along with an outdoor gas BBQ that guests can share), so if you plan to do this, you would be well advised to stock up with supplies in Anchorage or Wasilla (if you're coming from the south) or Fairbanks (if you're coming from the north). There are good restaurant options nearby, though, including very good and reasonably-priced food at the fun and raucous nearby 49th State Brewpub (only a mile or two away), and a range of places 12 miles away near the Denali Park entrance (one night when the restaurants seemed to be full we even got take-out Thai food from the Thai food truck stationed in the shopping center near the park entrance, and took it back to the cabin to eat it--it was really good!).

The price we were charged was very, very reasonable for this location. It would've been a good price even for a small cabin for two, and it was a great price for a large cabin that could've accomodated 6 people or so.

The day we were scheduled to leave, Ann Marie took it upon herself--after discussing our tentative plans with her husband and getting his take on it too--to give us recommendations for what to do on our trip back to Anchorage for our flight out the next day. As a result of her advice, we completely changed our plans and adopted her recommendations, and we're sure glad we did! We saw some great things we wouldn't have ever known about or seen if she hadn't gone to the trouble of discussing our plans with us. When we left, it felt more like we were leaving a friend's house than leaving a B&B!

In giving my rating on this, I'd say the cabin itself probably deserved 3.5 to 4 points out of 5, but Ann Marie and her family's hospitality was so terrific that it easily bumps the rating up to 5 out of 5. We'll definitely want to stay here again on our next visit, when we'll probably bring along our family.

We stayed there twice both in a room and cabin. Extremely nice people. As advertised it's a continential breakfast, but if you're fortunate enough to get Ann Marie's scones with hand picked AK blueberries... Wow! It's not far from Denali Natl Park, but you have a great chance to see wildlife. Seen moose and calves on each visit, up close. Very cool place. Will definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: Personally we like the cabin better than the room
