Owner description: If coming from Skagway your journey begins with a short walk from the pier where you'll board a high-speed ferry for a 45-minute cruise along North America's longest and deepest fjord to Haines. Enjoy spectacular views and informative commentary from your guide on the wildlife, geology, and beautiful landscape. Watch for whales along the way, as you glide past breathtaking glaciers and cascading waterfalls. Upon arrival in Haines, enjoy a tour of historic Fort Seward before heading to your paddling destination at Chilkoot Lake. This incredible location is home to all five species of Pacific salmon, numerous bald eagles, waterfowl and one of the highest concentrations of brown bears in southeast Alaska! You will be outfitted in the necessary equipment, receive a water-safety briefing, a thorough introduction to kayaking, and then start out onto the water. No previous experience is necessary and the expert guides will quickly make everyone at ease in the kayaks. The triple kayaks are very stable, spacious, and make excellent viewing platforms. Everyone will enjoy the excitement of kayaking in the midst of towering mountains and spectacular scenery. You may also be treated to outstanding bear viewing during the riverside drive to the lake and while paddling. Multiple spawning streams enter the lake and offer frequent bear and eagle sightings. You'll have 1.75 hours to explore by kayak. The location is chosen to provide the best kayaking and wildlife-viewing conditions and there is no better way to fully experience the beauty of Alaska!

Thanks for sharing!
We're having a very snowy winter here in Haines, and the lake is completely frozen. :)
Happy New Year!

7/25/2013 This was our last "tour" of the week - and the best! We previously did the glacier wilderness tour which was great) but there is something about being on the lake with someone who can tell you everything you wanted to know ...and more. She made sure our lake trip was memorable and she was just a pleasure to be with on the Lake - pointing out all the things we would have missed. We were a group of 3 women who are fit but had never kayaked before - it was great! Great sack lunch after the trip was well enjoyed (from Mountain Market) :)

My daughter and I had the good fortune of having our guide CJ all for ourselves. While the scenery and solitude of Lake Chilkoot were reason enough to recommend the trip, I highly recommend CJ as a guide. She was very sweet and extremely knowledgeable, she very much added to our overall experience.

After four days on a cruise this was the ideal excursion, beautiful scenery, great host and a good workout while taking in all the majesty of the surrounding scenery. Fabulous employees that treat you like family!

After a couple of wet days visiting Ketchikan and Juneau, my friend and I were questioning our sanity for signing up to kayak during the Skagway stop. We were rewarded with beautiful weather, a fantastic ride and commentary on our way to Haines. Our brave group of SEVEN (of thousands on the Golden Princess) were met by friendly guides who whisked us off to Chilkoot Lake. Since we were such a small group, we were able to get decked out and on the water quickly. I could have stayed out there until my arms fell off. What a beautiful setting! The kayaks are indeed cadillacs, so do not fear getting wet. Our kayak was the only one with 3 passengers, we had no trouble at all. Two of us had a little bit of kayak experience, one had none at all. I sat in front and had my camera out the whole time. We were sad when we had to turn around and head back, but the view of the mountains that had been behind us on the way out was incredible. Lunch back at the dock was healthy and filling. We got back to the dock as the ferry was returning for us. We were a little later than scheduled back to the ship, so didn't have time to see Skagway, but I'd trade tacky gift shops and ostentatious cruise line owned jewelry stores for a day on Chilkoot Lake any time!
