Very fun time exploring the mountains on an ATV. We were excited all 5 of us could fit in one ATV! Gorgeous views all the way up. Warm cookies and drinks half way up. hen we went to the top to see the most beautiful landscape I have ever seen. Headed back down and treated to a great dinner buffet in the lodge. Absolute best excursion for the price

We were on vacation with family of seven people, ages ranging from 17 to 75. This adventure was an awesome experience. We got on a ferry (that was fun) then we took a short ride on a bus to meet up with the "mules". The weather was exceptional so that really enhanced our experience.
We were in wilderness, beautiful views, waterfalls and more.
John and Ruth and Christie took good care of us. The meal consisted of halibut and chicken and more. THE MEAL WAS DELICIOUS.
If you are in Haines or Skagway this promises to be BEST ADVENTURE EVER!!

This was by far one of the best opportunities we had to be out in the wilderness, and with such experienced guides! John and Ruth were incredibly knowledgable, and made the trip so enjoyable. Christie prepared the most amazing meal for us on our way back down the mountain, with spectacular views and a great chance at seeing the local wildlife. If you're going to do one excursion on your stop in Skagway or Haines, this is it! Thanks for the memories, guys!!

As part of our cruise, we chose a 4x4 day tour of Takshanuk Mountain. We had a beautiful, crisp June day. The tour starts out with a bus ride from the ferry dock to the base of this rather small mountain. We were allowed to pick out a 4 x 4 ATV and there were enough people that two others rode in back with my husband and me. The ascent is fairly slow and you will see an ATV about 10 feet ahead of you and one about 10 feet back, so this is not exploring on your own! The trail is steep so the ATVs only travel at speeds under 10 miles per hour, but you can sometimes create a bit of space and get a little speed going if that's your choice. The trail had a lot of dips, but overall the ride is quite smooth because the speed is low.
We stopped a couple of times at scenic overlooks going up and coming down. As part of the tour, we stopped at a small lodge on the way up for a cup of cocoa or coffee and some hot cookies and then stopped on the way down for a halibut dinner. The food was fine, although the halibut was fried nuggets and really could have been chicken for all the flavor you could taste.

Mostly, it's a nice way to get outside, get a very easy way up and down a mountain which does have some beautiful views, and maybe meet some people. There was a bear lurking near the lodge. We also saw a few small waterfalls and lots of birds. We enjoyed the two-hour tour. Just enough time.
