“Huge portions”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

We went here to eat after going dog sledding. The Calzones were $20, which seemed overpriced, however my husband and I were hungry so we ordered one to share. When it came out we were shocked at how large it was. One calzone could have fed 3-4 people. Knowing how large it was made the price reasonable. Calzone was delicous.

The decor isn't anything special/

“Surly and rude, and where's the baked goods?”
Reviewed July 22, 2012

Been here many times. The people behind the counter are always so surly and rude, it's become comical. And where's the baked goods? Not like any bakery in the normal sense of the word. They have soup and ice cream. The interior feels claustraphobic. In the summer you can sit outside at picnic tables with lots of pretty potted plants around, but God help you if you leave a bike propped up near the tables.

“Yummy baked goods and good coffee.”

Delicious cinnamon rolls, and apple fritters. The coconut pecan bar is a real find! Great coffee, too. Not a fan of the cookies or doughnuts.

“I thought they changed owners”
Reviewed June 10, 2012

We used to live in Alaska and enjoyed heading down to the Alpine Diner to get dessert and possibly a little meal.
The prices have risen and it looks like they are only there to gouge the tourists now.
I ordered a spinach omlet and it was loaded with feta- which I did not ask for and was a ridiculously oversided portion.
They kept forgetting to give us coffee and the place was cold.
The Bakery is fine... the diner- not so much.

“more a cafe than restaurant”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

alyeska is basically a ski resort but is also an accesspoint for the portage glacier cruise. We spent two night in alyeska at the resort which has comfortable and scenic accommodation. The town of girdwood is different and we visited Chair 5 the first evening for a bit of local culture as it is a bar/eatery which the locals seem to frequent - basically pub food with a range of beers on tap. friendly staff and buzzing. for breakfast we tried the bakery which provides a range of soups and salads but also a home made granola which is fantastic. Good coffee and well worth a visit.
