“Breathtaking Scenery but concierge not so good / dependable.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2011

Stayed at the Alyeska resort for three days in July. Just incredible scenery and hotel is very comfortable. The concierge is not so responsive and she told me she would arrange a wonderful fishing adventure but she never did it and totally misrepresented what she promised. That made us miss the one thing we really wanted to do. Do your homework on the fishing. Seward is probably a better bet to depend on the charters there to take you. The hotel staff was wonderful and the rooms were great. Dinner at the Seven Glacier Resturant was great.

Dear BadGolfer99,

Thank you for staying with us, I am glad you enjoyed the scenery and that the hotel was comfortable.

I am so sorry to hear that you missed out on a fishing excursion while staying at the Hotel Alyeska. Please note that Alaska is a very popular destination for sport fishing and we strongly recommend advanced reservations to guarantee availability. The concierges have both worked at the Resort for 7 years or more and are very knowledgeable about local excursions. We are available for questions and bookings year round and are more than happy to assist and answer any questions you may have.

I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experience with you. Please feel free to contact me at (907)754-2108 or guestservices@alyeskaresort.com

We stay at the Alyeska often...at least 10 times per year. Oh my, did we have a terrible experience when we stayed on 7/23/11. The only rooms left were "Spa" rooms, which are on the back side of the 2nd floor, near the "Spa". They are more expensive and tout themselves as having better amenities. Well, they may have a bigger and newer TV, but they have no view and our room had lots of holes in the walls that had been "spackled" over. It was the dirtiest room that I have ever seen at Alyeska. Normally, the rooms are fairly well taken care of. We had black hair in the bathtub. The sheets seemed like that hadn't been changed. To top it off.....I put on the "spa" robe that has a warning label that if you take it, you'll be charged $110. I put my hand in the pocket of the robe and pulled out beer caps, a bottle opener and coins!!!! I was mortified. ICK ICK ICK I can just imagine some big sweaty beer drinker had that robe on. In the pockets of the other robe were a whole lot of crumbs (cookies maybe). I visited the front desk after the turn down maids couldn't answer my simple question of "Are the robes laundered betweeen guests". The front desk said ick too. A bit later, a housekeeper that spoke Engligh brought replacement robes, but of the non-"spa" variety. She didn't know we were in a "Spa" room....,,hello? Everyroom in the wing is a "Spa" room.
No apologies, No credit for the grossness, No anything.

Very upset.

Sakura is AWESOME though!!

We have been to Alaska 2 times and spent 2 nights at this hotel each time. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the public areas have beautiful views from large windows. The decor is very inviting. There are several restaurants and a Starbucks located in the hotel and other good choices in the small town of Girdwood.
Aleyska Resort is located in Girdwood, which is about a 45 minute drive from Anchorage. The drive along the Turnagain Arm is lovely and there are several spots that you can stop and hike or take photos. This is a good location for day trips north or south.

We found the Hotel Alyeska to be a classy place. Our room was spacious with a pretty view (hard to avoid in this area), and the service was friendly and professional. We started our Alaska trip here, and took one of the hikes off of the Alyeska property (Winner Creek Trail) which made for a great acclimation to the terrain and the area. It's a great hike, btw. Breakfasts at the Pond Cafe were very good and served efficiently. We ate our first evening at the bar of the Aurora Grill, and while there was some confusion about whether we could eat at the bar or not, once we were served, meals were yummy (great burger for me, rather elaborate pasta for my husband). We splurged and ate one night at Seven Glaciers which I have also reviewed, and if you decide not to do that, be sure to take the tram to the top and enjoy the great views from the top of the ski resort. I'm happy to say we received quietly professional treatments at the spa, and since this was the last luxury place we were staying in on our trip to AK, we made the most of it.

My family and I stayed here for 5 nights in July. Great location and the staff was friendly. We had a junior suite which was nice but not an awesome view, but OK. However, for the money this hotel has some work to do. For example, we called to have a TV remote sent up and were told they would try to get us one (no remote in our room), but they never showed up. After a long flight and drive to the hotel, we pulled up but the valet guy was gone. We thus parked our own car and during the stay were never asked if they could help with bags or getting our car. I kind of wondered what does the valet do? As you pull up it does not feel upscale at all because of the valet issue and a new car up on a trailer that they were promoting? As we were checking out, we were in a hurry but 75 little campers came into the hotel lobby and trashed the rest rooms and were really loud. Not very relaxing. No kids activities at all. They could have had a fire with smores or something. Finally, when we checked in we explained that we were celebrating our 25th anniversary. Not that I expected anything, but you would have thought an acknowledgment of some kind would have been appropriate. Net, a good hotel that has a way to go to be great!
