“great breakfast in wonderful Girdwood”
Reviewed July 5, 2010

We ate there twice instead of having an overpriced breakfast at the Hotel Alyeska; it's about a mile from the hotel up on a hill in a large building shared with other shops and apartments. I had the sourdough pancakes both times because - like just about every other restaurant in Alaska - they give you gargantuan portions that are superscrumptious. It's a cozy little place with picnic tables and sunflower decor. On a rainy day, if the door is left open, you can listen to that soft quiet rain, and two little dogs will rush in to greet you (ok there's no guarantee - they belonged to a customer and probably should not have been in there). But still, like Girdwood, the Bake Shop is warm and cozy. The young people who work there are friendly enough, not as friendly as most places in Alaska, but as friendly as you expect a young person to be. I think they only take cash there. Can't wait to go back.

“Don't miss their sticky buns and cafe lattes”
Reviewed July 27, 2009

To go or to eat there, their sticky cinnamon bun with butter is to die for. They put a huge amount of real butter on the side (way more than needed in my opinion).

We returned at for their breakfast and had their sourdough pancakes (thin crepes). They serve it again with real butter on the side and you may top them with maple syrup (wow!) A bit pricey but large servings allowing you to share if you are on a tigh budget or if you don't eat like pigs :-)

“Great lunch stop!”
Reviewed July 26, 2009

The Bake Shop is a nice place to stop for lunch on the way south from Anchorage to Seward. My wife and I grabbed a sandwich and a giant cinnamon roll here during our Alaskan vacation and ate them on the shore of Portage Glacier lake. The Bake Shop will make a fresh, filling sandwich to order and they also have fresh pastries and soup(s) daily. The only drawback is that this place is several miles off of the main road which is fine if not in a too big of a hurry... By the way, be sure to check out the giant flowers out front as well as take a look up at Mount Alyeska to possibly catch a glipse of a paraglider braving the winds!
