“We had the best time!”
Reviewed August 16, 2014

We spent two weeks on vacation in Alaska in early August. 15 of us traveled together from 4 families with our kids ranging in age from 15 to 24 years old. We had many activities planned during the trip but one of our favorites was the Spencer Glacier Kayak/Hike with Ascending Path. Everything went really well and we all really enjoyed the day. We met at Noon at the Ascending Path Yurt behind the Alyeska Hotel. After an orientation and interview process with our 4 guides we left by van for the train station. We boarded the train for a short 30 minute trip on the Alaska Railroad to the Spencer Whistle Stop. During the ride we ate a boxed lunch provided by AP. We then traveled a short distance by bus to Spencer Lake. We received our Kayak and rafting safety briefings and then 10 of our group kayaked across the lake with the other 5 rafting across. The lake had several icebergs that had calved off of the Spencer Glacier. That and the surrounding scenery made the trip very enjoyable. We arrived at the Spencer Glacier, got out of our Kayaking gear, and put on our crampons and helmets to ready for the Glacier hike. We received another safety briefing and broke into groups with the guides for our hike up the Spencer Glacier. This was an absolute blast. We hiked for over 2 hours and saw all kinds of interesting glacial features with our guides providing commentary along the way. Upon completion of our hike we got back in the kayaks made it across the lake and hiked around a bit with our guides before flagging down the train for our return trip to Girdwood. We arrived home about 9 pm. We totally enjoyed the whole day. AP normally doesn't take this large a group to the glacier but everything went very smooth without missing a beat. They teamed with a local rafting company to provide the raft and 2 additional rafting guides for the trip across the lake. Even though it was raining off and on during the day we had our raingear and the rain wasn't a problem at all. I can highly recommend this tour and want to thank all the folks from Ascending Path for making it possible.

“Marcia P. Great day rock climbing”
Reviewed July 23, 2014

Thank you ascending path for a great day rock climbing...there were 4 of us with vastly different levels of climbing experience but we were all able to climb together and still be challenged. Our guide Ryan was awesome...very enthusiastic and encouraging....and he brought plenty of water, snacks and bug spray. Thanks also to Celina who I talked to when planning the trip, she returned every call and email and was a huge help!

“Spencer Glacier Hike”
Reviewed June 27, 2014

Ascending Path provide convenient tour that include a depart by train from Anchorage and return by train to Anchorage in the evening. The hike features small groups (we were 4 with 2 guides). Spencer Glacier is wonderful, and quiet in the middle of nowhere. If you combine that with the kayaking on Spencer Lake passing nearby Iceberg that makes a unique experience, easily accessible from Anchorage. It is really a must do to discover one of the icy side of Alaska.
